Cheers David. She's nearly there. Gordon's dizzy from the "S" was a 45D 41415. 15° stamped on the cam, 4-12-8 on the vacuum capsule. I'm not sure if it is actually an "S" dizzy, as the replacement one I've fitted is also a 41415! Should be able to go out for a spin this afternoon. Chris. Same details as the one off the princess engine. According to the books the S should have a 25D - probably to save space. Haynes has 1 number 41238 Workshop manual 2 - 41234 (9:1) & 41035 (8:1 & 6.9:1)

Looking fwd to seeing the in car video of that performance - 60 in reverse must have been entertaining - how's your neck! Waiting for it in the post (blue bulb?) Update: Went for a drive today, well a breakdown. Miss-firing again, won't rev again yet was ok 2 days ago. Crawled home, parked up and dropped oil. Fix oil leak from oil pipe. Fix fuel leak. Fix oil leak from rocker cover. Condenser change, no improvement. Coil change. Working. This car hates me coz when I ran it, for over an hour, in the garage there was no oil or fuel leak. It ran beautifully.

Well done I wasn't looking forward to taking that engine back out. How did you free the clutch in the end Was a mixture of all suggestions. I ran engine for about an hour and fixed clutch pedal in down position for a few hours. Then I started her up again in gear (4th - up to about 60)), applied the brake and throttle at same time - clutch peddle was still down. Next a few emergency stops. I repeated the runs in reverse and then there was a subtle bang and I had gears.

MGB owners have reported the opposite problem on the early cars that vented through a tube in the rocker cover that incorporated a restrictor. If the latter was lost, it could fall out when the cover was removed, it would suck out so much oil that the engine could run bearings on a long hot run. David Was a common problem. The restrictor was a 5/64" hole and a simple fix was to use a '1/2" freeze plug' with the hole drilled in it. One of the options I considered was to fit a 1/2" ID pipe to the rocker cover to emulate the MGB system. Did not do it as Chris's car rocker cover is a one off and thought he would not be pleased hence the ~5/32" (4mm) breather hole. Also putting a ~5/32" (2mm) restriction in the pipe to the carb.

This is the new modified release bearing. It is a proper bearing that has been pressed into the housing. The one below has done about 7,000 miles. The bearing spins smoothly, no real marking on the face and no wear. Must mention that this is not my idea but another club member.

Back to the old engine. Took it apart and found no obvious problems. Bores still show honing marks, no movement of the pistons. Wet carbon on the crowns. Valves seem ok. Carbon is dry. Nothing wrong with the gasket My conclusion All we needed to do was drill a 5/16" in the rocker cover cap. Oil usage was down to crank case pressurisation.

Well it's looking prettier, Well things only got worse. Tried to start it this morning and it ran as rough as bugger. Ended up changing the dizzi, again. So I decided to put it all back together, rang Mr P and asked him to come and get as I refuse to do anymore on the thing. Luckily he will be able to drive it home as the clutch let go this morning.

Well understated Mr P.
Thinking positively, at least all should undo easily.

Latest on the bonnet. Just needs to dry fully before polishing. Note, I am only dealing with the inside.
