Couple of pics of Eugenie for you to share, The actual re-build has been recorded on a couple of forums already, so I'll update this periodically as other jobs get done. The "to do" list currently stands at a few bits of bodywork correction (Couple of dings on the front passenger door), rebuild the starter motor (noisy) and an investigation of the front o/s wheel bearing. The correct door cards can be fitted to complete the interior when four wooden cappings can be found. P45.

Thanks for the kind comments. You're welcome to the ones off my 18/85 doors Chris. They need stripping and re-vanishing, but ..... Keith, that's a very kind offer and much appreciated. It's the sort of job to knock off over the winter as the car won't be out too much. If you'd like to PM me with a cost, I'll organise some pennies for you. Chris, P45.

If you'd like to PM me with a cost, I'll organise some pennies for you. Won't cost you a penny Chris. Just a case of another meet or relaying them to you. Three are still on the doors ATM, but I want to replace the 18/85 trims with Reckless' old ones. Are you aware of the extra metal welded on the doors? Might try and drill these off so you can have them as well, if you want?

Cheers, Keith.
I wasn't aware of any extra bracketry, so that's good info.
Are you planning on using the slim "faux wood" metal strips as capping? If so, the ones on mine which I'm planning to replace are immaculate and you'd be welcome to them and even the door cards, as they'll be replaced with the proper ones at the same time.
Chris, P45.

Thanks, but I think I'm going to try and stick with Reckless' original fittings. I'll take some photos in the morning, so you can see what's fitted and what I'm planning.

Got my cappings redone by a bloke called Martin - advertises in Practical Clasics. Can recommend him. I sent a dash panel with the caps and he matched it all in all for £85

Sounds like a bargain to me. Today I replaced Eugenie's battery. It has been using an 038 from Halford's which has already had to be replaced once. This one has similarly lost the will to live at the first sign of cold weather, so refund time. LOCI recommend using the 053 battery from the Micra. Due to the width available between the wing and the engine damper, there aren't too many to choose from. Additionally, the 053 is rated at 45Ah as against the 36Ah of the 038. A visit to Bargain Motor Factors in Roundhay yielded up a Varta 053 for £40 with a two year warranty, which was a bit of a steal. Old battery. New one. Terminals are on the engine side, so the tie down bar appeared to sit rather close to the terminals. There is actually adequate clearance, although I did put a strip of thick rubber under the bar to push it out just a little. Eugenie took about six goes to start and the battery coped with it pefectly well, so hopefuly that's an end of that problem for a while. Chris.

It always surprised me the lack of room for a battery in an 18/85. I thought it was just the extra pots on a Six that reduced the space!

I don't think that the Six has the engine damper? If that's the case, there's an extra 1.5" to play with. You'll be able to get more or less any battery in that sort of gap.
Chris.

I You'll be able to get more or less any battery in that sort of gap. Nice idea, but you're not taking account of the width of two extra cylinders! The auto is a bit more generous as we've discussed in the past.

Took her out for a run this afternoon. She was a bit sluggish starting as the battery was down a little (Not been out since the new one was fitted). You could tell it's still bitterly cold up here as she took about 5 miles to get fully off the choke and settle down to a proper idle.
Anyway, 40 miles pottering through Leeds and the immediate environs to drop off a few bits and pieces and raid the one proper motor factors open today was most pleasant.
Chris.

(Nearly) Spring Review.I can report after a 100 mile run yesterday that she's running beautiully, even after so little use over the winter. Bodywise, things are not so good. This time last year, it was the wings which were in a state. This year........ So that's all four doors to be stripped, treated and repainted. Having mentioned the wings: Peeling round the side light. Might be able to just touch that bit back in. Ho, hum, lots to be done. Chris.
