So long as I'm active it's not too bad. Sill's off: Had the usual "What were they doing?" moment looking at the remains. The red panel is a substantial repair and quite neatly done. Just that they've ignored the rot in the centre membrane. Chris.

Boring....... Loads of spot welds, mainly. Got to the A post, so the wing needs to be sprung out for access. A strange crick crack noise occured... Erm, yes. Inside the wing. And the A post itself. Going to need a fair bit of metal chopping out. Chris.

Crikey! The last bit one owner apparently spent £1200 on repairs - mainly on filler by the looks of it!

I agree. I also wonder how some of these people sleep at night. I really couldn't give you the car back with those sort of "repairs". She'll be solid fairly soon. I suppose it's one of the reasons I put the pics up. I like the idea of people being able to see what's been done, and if in a few years time, you were to move the car on, the new owner can also have a look.
Chris.

It's taken all afternoon to get most of the centre sill off. It's being really, really stubborn. Problem back by the displacer. That'll have to be choppped out and replaced. Chris.

Is that part of the inner sill then, at the rear? I need to track down a hydrolastic pump - I'll need to replace suspension bushes and ball joints so I could do with one now. The Maxi will need a bit of work on the rear suspension soon too. Are the Liquid Lever type any good?

No need to deflate the suspension for the ball joints, Phil. The rotten panel is exposed at the back, dropping down the side of the rear displacer. Liquid Levers make two nice pumps. One is a straight inflation pump (expensive), the other will vacuum the system ("scragging"), then pump it up (very expensive). LOCI promote a pump based on a grease gun, which will do the job, but very slowly. I made my own in the end - HERE. Chris.

Thought I'de better get back to it. Two jumper day in the workshop, so kept active. Got the remnants out from the door posts, finally. Drop down panel cut away. Bottom flange chopped off. Drop down panel replaced. Strengthening gusset added at the end of the panel, as it wasn't there....... New bottom flange made up. Note useful Christmas present. Flange plug welded home. Enough for today - get the welds flatted tomorrow and then we can see about some sill assembly. Chris.

Keep warm in there Chris, I am just up the road from you with family today and the frost didn't melt from my car all day.

I know what you mean, Nick. Our Alex went out in the Green Frog Matiz about 12.30 and had to scrape the ice off even then. Popped off for a pint this evening around 9.30 and everything except the road surfaces was glistening with frost. Well, it's winter, isn't it?
Chris.

Spent most of the afternoon working on the sill panels. Surface rust buzzed off and primer applied. Good hour spent straightening out the centre membrane and knocking the kinks in the flange back to the right profile. It's a good fit now. Phil asked me to have a looked under the rear o/s corner (or fish tank as Ahctog would call it.) whilst I was at it. It was only a little tickle with the wire brush, honest.... Solid edges, thin in the middle. Might be able to work with it rather than cutting the back of the wheel tub out. Will ponder that. Whilst I was under there: Spare wheel tray looks decidedly unhealthy - and I never even touched it! Chris.

Maybe worth considering making a permanent drain hole to let the fish out? David Phil asked me to have a looked under the rear o/s corner (or fish tank as Ahctog would call it.) whilst I was at it. It was only a little tickle with the wire brush, honest.... Chris.

Don't know... It'd need some sort of dribble valve rather than an open hole. SAAB used to put them in the boot of 99s. Anyway. After two and a half hours of trimming, knocking, twisting and plain BFI, the sill now fits. Bit of trimming round the bottom of the A post and a lot of hole drilling and I can see about welding it home. Chris.
