It might not be beyond redemption. I should have the sill fully attached tomorrow, so I'll see about dropping it off and having a proper look. There is a scrapper on eBay at the moment - have a look in the "For Sale" thread. So - angle grinders. Dangerous beasts at the best of times. Fitted a new slitting disc to sort out the bit that comes next. Fired it up and: I haven't found the bit that came off yet! Safety glasses are ESSENTIAL if you use this tool. I've had them break up if you use them incorrectly and serves you right, but flying apart on start-up was a new one on me. Fitted another one and dealt with the flange at the bottom of the C post. If you look back a few pictures, you'll see that the edge had disintegrated getting the multitude of spot welds drilled out, so this made quite a bit of sense. Quite pleased with how it's worked out. Sill is now fully punched and drilled and clamped into place. Tomorrow - plug welding. Chris.

I seem to recall you had an injury not that long ago and noted then that safety glasses are not an option. I have never seen a failure at start up. Was it a branded item or a cheapo? Worth going back to the shop to warn them if you still recall whwre you purchased it. It could have been very nasty even wearing protective clothing and glasses.

You are probably right. An open hole could allow water to be sucked up depending on the aerodynamics, but at least it should drain when parked instead of creating the fish tank? David Don't know... It'd need some sort of dribble valve rather than an open hole. SAAB used to put them in the boot of 99s. Chris.

Was it a branded item or a cheapo? David Erbauer - Screwfix own brand. £10 for 10 and a handy tin. Sill comprehensively attached. Plug welds flatted back. Rear closing panel in and had its first flat back. Chris.

Given their likely popularity it may be worth sending Screwfix an email and photo to see if they need to recall them before there is a nasty accident? David Was it a branded item or a cheapo? David Erbauer - Screwfix own brand. £10 for 10 and a handy tin. Chris.

Yes, fair point. I'll drop them a line just in case. Sill is now finished. "A" post closed off. Seam sealer next, probably a couple of wipes of filler then some paint. After that, the fish tank. Also need to make up the nut plate for the accelerator. Chris.

Nut plate done. Bottom of fish tank done. Now seriously cold, so enough for today. Chris.

Hi Chris, I'll give the guy selling the scrapper on eBay a call about the tray tomorrow, cheers for the tip off! If it's the blue one in Pontefract it looks quite nice to be scrapped. I'm going to try to get Friday off if you're about in the afternoon, to bring the wings up. I'll be in the Maxi - hopefully the weather will be ok. I've used the Hammerite Rustbeater primer on the inside of the wings. Think I need to bring them into the kitchen for it to dry properly though. Good thing I live alone!!

If you go to see them, get the nearside tie-bar housing at the same time. Yours isn't pretty. Take camera - Mark, Gordon and I want to see the damage on the nearside. I'll be about - just let me know roughly what time you'll land. Everything is drying very slowly at the mo. That's why I thought I'd finish the welding rather than doing filler. Besides, I hate filler. Chris.

I've found a pic on the forum of a tie bar housing I think but can't paste it. I'll look through my manual.

Hi Phil. This beastie: That's under the nearside front corner. Five bolts, I think. Yours looks rather like the top one and will fail the MoT. I made a new one, but there were consequences, so if they've got a decent one, grab it! Chris.

The Maxi is in for its mot on Saturday - hoping for no surprises from that! You going to start a thread on this Maxi Phil? It would be nice to see I am not alone. LOL

Not just fail the MOT that is VERY dangerous as it could easily lead to the front suspension breaking - there are actual examples out there. David Hi Phil. This beastie: That's under the nearside front corner. Five bolts, I think. Yours looks rather like the top one and will fail the MoT. Chris.

I've secured the spare wheel tray and tie rod housings, picking them up on Friday! I'll take a few pics, they're in the process of breaking the car up at the moment.
