Sill in primer, underside and wheel tubs undersealed and the bottom of the sill has been stone chipped. Wheels are now back on and she's ready to come down and have the doors re-hung. Chris.

Finished up on a bit of a diversion today. Started well enough: Back on her wheels and rear door re-fitted. Not much point in putting the front one on as it would only be removed again for changing the wings. Next, turn her round to access the drivers side properly. She coughed and spluttered a bit and didn't want to go. Looking at the coil showed four wires, so it must have one of those electronical ignition fingys fitted. Horrible red and blue plastic connectors.... The red wire pulled out of one when I touched it. So, they went..... And once you start You just can't stop. Fuse box was just naughty. Much better and probably fifty times more reliable. Car started second turn of the key, but I've lost the light, so I'll drive her out and round tomorrow. Chris.

I know the oil pressure is disconnected too, the switch looks really odd. The sill looks great. I'll carry on with sorting the wings tomorrow. Would I be able to pop them up after Christmas sometime? They'll go in the back of the Maxi.

They'll go in the back of the Maxi. Hi Phil, There is more.... This morning, went to spin her over and the solenoid went clunk - no starter. Motor metered out all right. Eventually, I measured the resistance from the engine to earth - 200Ω+. A few minutes poking about revealed the complete absence of any earthing strap from the engine. Fortunately, our local motor factors is open 'til one, so a 2' strap was bought. It's now bolted to the transfer housing and the main earth point. Engine now span over very fast indeed (Faster than either of mine - must check earths!). Still didn't start. Sparks, yes. Fuel, yes. Advance tube pointing in wrong direction - distributor not locked. Turn it back to 2 minutes past 12 o'clock and off we went. The extra wires I suspect are for the red LED warning lamp? I'll get them off the battery clamps before I finish. The terminal on top of the oil pressure switch has broken off. It's a diaphragm pressure switch which works a variable resistor. I think it's the same as the one on the "E" type Jag, so double the number you just thought of. I'd be delighted to see you - give me a ring first. So, car turned round, doors off, up on the stands and wheels off. Started poking about the front floor with the chisel. All a bit odd. Eventually figured out that the bottom of the inner sill was not only rotten, but crushed as well. A big repair panel had been welded to the outer sill, tucked under the floor and attached to a false bottom flange, so the whole thing was kinked inwards and upwards. Doesn't actually matter, as it's all going to get chopped off and replaced. First poke about. Crush damage along inner sill. Outer sill cut away for access. Piece removed was damask red inside, with a sound deadening pad on the inside. I imagine it had been chopped out of a door. And after the wire wheel in the angle grinder. Chop it all out tomorrow. Not quite, Indy. That's the on/off type switch. The one required is much more fiendish. Anyway, sorted the floor. Made it into an enormous hole. Then filled it in again. Basically the same repair as the other side, except I had to take about 2" out of the inner sill. Chris.

Dave - you've got a Morris, so you have an oil pressure warning light. Oil pressure works the switch, turns off the light. The Wolseleys (being posh) have a pressure guage, so the transmitter drives a Smith's moving iron instrument. Mine got through about three of those transmitters befor I got my hands on a pressure guage from a Wolseley Six. That one works on a capillery tube and has been completely reliable ever since.
Indy - the floor is now a good solid job, so I can chop the sill off with confidence.

Hi Chris - amazing work! I've always fancied doing an 1800 moke - seems you'll be the go to bloke - if you don't regard it as complete sacrilege! There's enough cars about that people are breaking/have given up on... Cheers Andrew

Now there's an idea.... I can see one or two club stalwarts having conniptions. There's still a goodly number of dog rough cars around - I'm sure one wouldn't be missed. How to brace the thing together will be the fun part. Anyway, I'm chopping off the outer sill at the moment. Bit nippy, so I've come in to warm up. Chris.
