No it was a bit odd...as I'm a bit of a luddite re computers/online stuff, got someone else to bid the first time round and I bailed out at £205 as I'm guessing the only other bidder was the owner. Couldn't be bothered to get involved the second time it popped up a few weeks later.

Sorry been out all day - have refurb'd tank on my car (1800) but refurb not great and could do with extra capacity of 2200 hence post. Have got mate who can poss make me new one for £300 and have located (today) a crap one to use as a template. So non leaky good condition 2200 tank is what I'm after. If it's immaculate I'd go to £150/£200 at a push but it'd have to be top notch - thanks for thinking of me ZeroSeven711-243115 if you need to talk pricing/condition once you see. I'm between Bournemouth and Southampton. Cheers Andrew

Car made 85 bhp at the wheels on the rollers and running sweetly throughout rev range not gutless as before - quite chuffed as rally cars were circa 77 bhp. maniflow sorted out the exhaust and it's now a perfect balance of mildly rorty under hard acceleration and quiet the rest of the time. Petrol tank problem is the tank refurb people put in a pick up pipe that's too short so that's going back to them. Unfortunately now that car is quiet can now hear knock from steering rack........

Failing that one that's shot but I could use as a template....

Pictures to follow but car MOT'd last week and back on road being run in. First impressions are the suspension mods - little mini shocks on the front, bump stops on the back and anti roll bar - have been a great success. Still all the comfort but none of the front to back pitching and it corners really well - flatter and handling much more neutral - negligible understeer. Engine we'll have to wait and see - engine very tight and timing etc not perfect yet. It's going on rolling road on Thursday - no power runs(!) as still running in but will be able to get a more thorough set up. Initial impressions are it's going to be a hoot once it's on the cam but may be a little gutless before that - I was warned! Only neg is the boomy maniflow single box exhaust which is fun for 10 mins but a pain after that - it'll be getting a second box on it v.soon. Did car run with this lot www.bjautobits.co.uk/dews.htm on Sunday and no overheating - only other things to sort are an incredibly optimistic speedo 60mph indicated is 50mph actual (!) and a fuel gauge that says it's a quarter full when tank is empty - presume sender / sticking float? More later after r.road and will sort pictures. Cheers

Thanks for this. I've had a look at some MGB forums about this mod, and particularly in the USA, comments are mixed (what a surprise)between swear by it, swear at it and no real difference! Thanks for the pointer to the Ozzie site - really useful stuff there. The issue as you so rightly point out is not there was anything wrong with the original arrangement but trying to find a quality replacement is not always straightforward. I'll keep you posted, but want to get off the fence in the next day or two as the car is painted and starting to go back together and engine/gearbox still separate! Really wanted to get to Pride of Longbridge in it this year but I reckon I'll be a week or two late..

Just getting to the stage of putting engine and gearbox back together and I'm wondering if this is a better option than the std offering - and most importantly does anyone know if it'll fit? "A superior clutch release bearing is available for MGB models, offered by MGOC Spares part number GRB106R. This roller type release bearing design provides greater service life and reliability over the standard carbon material bearing that is designed to erode in use and is also susceptible to uneven wear and premature failure. The roller type bearing contact ring has a special surface coating and rotates on a lubricated steel bearing. The bearing contact ring pivots to ensure equal surface contact with the clutch plate cover. The roller type bearing requires no maintenance and is supplied ready to fit at £25.95." Comments /views pls! Andrew

Yes David I've had quite a few chats with him and to be honest he would have done the engine but couldn't look at it until May/June and this was last November! The engine is to his spec basically so am hoping to have a "gem" as well!

Hi David - good point re the vernier - it's got one as part of the spec. + a few other bits and bobs like the uprated oil pump and I'm going for the spin on filter with the ability to add an oil cooler at some point.I had the same thought re cables/rods - received wisdom is that with the lcb manifold it's not straightforward and that if it's set up properly then the cables aren't too bad. To be honest I didn't really have a problem with the speed of the gearchange - it wasn't rifle bolt (!) but I've driven cars with a lot worse changes. Also have to be a little bit careful with some mods as the rally regs can be quite specific on some things - again depending on who is running it - period mods are ok but some can get a bit funny if you retro fit stuff from later cars. Cheers A

I can't believe last post was 18th Dec. Quite a lot has happened since. Structural work all done - thank goodness. The engine went away to an outfit called Skiptune in the end for one of their stage 2 engines - 1860 cc 285 cam everything balanced and a little bit of lightening here and there - comes back this week. Distributor did go to the Distributor Dr - am going electronic and he's rebuilt it to match the cam. Gearbox went to a guy on the Wirral - Alan Voights - who for a very reasonable sum has rebuilt it. Carbs have gone to Burlen for a rebuild as well. Maniflow are providing one of their exhaust manifolds and exhausts. A lot of people who worked at Downton are doing bits an bobs on the car and it's interesting/heartwarming how enthusiastic they are about Landcrabs - they all helped develop the special tuning mods back in the day. Steve Harris - another Downton ex - will do the final set up once it's all run in on the rolling road at Janspeed. With all the new metal it was proving difficult to match the paint so I decided to get both sides painted, then thought it might look silly so am painting the whole car - which then uncovered more horrors in the doors (not really a surprise). Currently in primer - should be painted by the end of the week. Don't think it'll be back together for pride of longbridge - which is a shame - but should be all done by end of April. Pictures to follow.
