Watch the suspension gas ball, they go porous and leak very slowly. One way round is to fit tyre valves Yes and no: like a tyre the hydragas units are always leaking gas slowly (like Citroen Hydropneumatic spheres too) - a new one just like an old one. I have been refilling quite a few of them so far, with the help of a friend who has been doing the welding. In the large majority the recharged units worked like new ones again. Alexander

I would think Wolseley and Austin/Morris used different pressings for the rear wing - is this right? (Wolseley should be shorter, as it is missing the Mk2 fins). These are stainless steel btw. and would have been painted silver in the middle.

Very nice looking Maxi. The seller is asking for a starting bid of £2000 which bearing in mind the condition of the car I don't think unreasonable. That said the following for Maxis is even smaller than for Landcrabs. eBay HERENick That golden Maxi is indeed worth every penny, I know that car from club meetings and it is indeed very nice. The only downside I can think of is that the colour is not original. It is noticeably less bright and striking than original 'Reynard' metallic - but possibly others would not notice it too much, but for me as owner of an original car in the same colour I find it very noticeabl... Indeed, I spotted you driving off and gave you a wave - but you were of course easy to identify with your car (putting cars to faces is somehow much easier than putting names to faces for me ) Regards, Alexander

I was there - and enjoyed it a lot. Sadly the day was much to short and I was way to busy to catch up with a lot of people... Sorry to have missed you (I saw you driving off, Chris).
Phenomenal turnout of cars!

Alexander

I WILL be there (yay!) - but I'll need to park with the general public despite using hydraulically interconnected suspension and a 3 Litre engine.... (Nay!)
I think I will dig out the unofficial Austin-Rover Resource T-shirt (or Landcrab, or Maxi, or LeJoG in an ADO16??? Too much choice!)
I am looking forward to meet plenty of people and put some faces to names!

Alexander

About 100-110PS can reliably extracted from a Maxi 1750. So I suppose 130-150 should be possible on the six - a crank from the Australian 2.6 litre version could help though... Downton made a kit for the Austin 2200, I have a report somewhere. I think it was about 135bhp. Interestingly the Maxi is rather frugal, so I suppose with the correct tweaks the 2200 does not need to be thirsty - although I cannot imagine it drinks as good as the real thing (the 3 litre of course)...

Alexander

I may be there... But neither in a crab nor something else carrying those doors (sadly). But spending fuel for 1200kms in the 3 litre is quite a bit for a quick stunt up there.

Alexander
PS: Anyone interested in some brand new Morris 1800 Mk1 rear light units?

White indicator lenses were used in Switzerland, France, Italy. Legally they could also have been used in Belgium and Spain, but these received normal orange ones. I have a set of all white Mk1 lenses here (as well as a set for a Maxi and an Austin/Morris 1100/1300).... In fact only the ones of the ADO16 are proper white, the others are a very light grey!

Alexander

Thanks, the photography for this article was hard work, but turned out very nice. And I was very pleased with the article - nothing about me on there, but a rather accurate history of this particular ADO16 variation. It was in fact quite a bit better than expected. Now only the landcrab has not had a feature here in Germany (ADO16, Maxi and 3 litre have been done during the last 2 years). I'm working on it Regards, Alexander
