David - if you have seen Grand Tour, you will notice that the quartet's production company is W Chump and Sons. Think you can count me as one of the Chump sons as when i started Mo she was nose up to a wall and my mind was elsewhere (I was trying to delve into the almost impenitrable wilderness of the boot (ask Chris what it is like) and i completely forgot about the wall restricted air flow .... until the familiar smell. My 2 Landcrab pumps are alloy. Somewhere in there is a cast iron one from a Moggy. If I can find that I will compare the 2. As the trip home from Yeadon had a goodly flow of ice cold, wet air, there was little chance of her boiling. She was starting to overheat on the rare (for these parts) hot summers day so sooner or later I would have had to get my hands dirty. No problem getting the radiator out and changing the pump, getting the radiator back in is the challenge.and will no doubt result in an expletive laden rant, possibly questioning the cars parentage

You reminded me of a Top Gear programme when thwy pushed a bubble car up against the wall so May, I think it was couldn't get out!
From memory (always dangerous!) I recall that the early water pumps were cast iron but I can't recall when they changed to alloy. I have read that MGB owners are trying to get the cast iron ones made again for their cars. There were also changes in the depth of the impeller on later crabs, sorry not much help but just some warning shots to be careful to carefully check the replacement is the same. Someone may be able to fill in the gaps. Hope you get it sorted quickly.

This afternoon's search yielded nothing in the way of pumps. I daren't spend too much time alone in the storage area as it is very rare anyone goes in there so if anything were to happen to me then I would be stuck. Madam won't help - says it is too cold - and Nigel is busy with his business at present. May try and con, er, persuade, cleaner to help. Just in case I can't find either of them, I have looked online and all the ones available seem to be for post 73 cars, and mine is a 69 so stuck there at the moment. David - back in 64/65 a mate had a Bubble Car with no reverse gear so he could drive it on his motorcycle licence. We watched as he was showing off and he ended up parking nose up to a wall and couldn't get out. We all disappeared into the pub and left him. We were on our second pints when he came in, rather annoyed. He had eventually attracted the attention of someone who pushed the car back a little to help him escape

Thanks Chris. Tony has a newly made cast iron one, so 1 last look this morning and cheque no doubt in the post this afternoon (can't you persuade him to get a PayPal account? So much quicker and easier!)

Thanks Chris - me getting confused with another car I used to own
This one was supplied by The Morris Garages, Newbury, Berks which explains the Reading registration

Chris - pump fitted today and the MOT man was full of praise and admiration for your welding skills. So much so, that he has requested I do not take the car out until he has further seam sealed all the welds and Schutz the underside (being done a week on Monday) He doesn't want your excellent work undone by common rust!

Good grief... Well, that is really nice to hear, thank you. You can't have too much rust protection, so he sounds like a responsible sort of chap. He probably has better access with a lift to get the stuff on than I do. I concentrated on the areas which I'd stripped off, rather than trying to redo the whole underside.

Maybe feeling guilty if he is the same guy that overlooked the fact that the bottom (Dave's bottom!) was falling out of the car at the last MOT?

He is still embarrassed that he missed the rot under the apparently solid sills, so much so that I get 'mates rates' on all work he does He was really impressed though and spent ages down a pit inspecting every inch before emerging and declaring that such good work deserved extra protection before use Car will be on a lift for 6 hours with heaters underneath to make sure every trace of moisture has gone before being seam sealed again, then left overnight and Shutz applied the following day He drove the car around the block and was impressed as to how tight she was and how she handles. He is a rally cross driver considering road racing next season. Possibly he is making sure everything's OK in case he puts in an offer for her in a few years!

MOT time so got the tester to do these photos underneath to show Chris's work
Of course she passed.
There is an annoying rattle which apparently emanates from within the steering rack and does not affect safety. Tony is trying to source an internal bush for me

Well done, Dave. A lot of the steering rack components are shared with the MGB rack.
