I have owned this car for coming up to 11 years. The only welding ever needed was new rear inner sills about 6 or 7 years ago. In March she flew through her MOT with no advisories, but it was noted that the waxoil was getting thin. Took her back to the same garage this morning and the tester was horrified to find this Untitled Untitled Untitled UntitledCan't believe 4 months can make so much difference Dave

So sorry to see the rot. It is surprising that it seemed to happen so suddenly. All I can think is that the metal had corroded leaving a thin outer skin intact at the time of the MOT. I have experienced what I think is a form of "sacrficial" corrosion where surrounding areas were protected with lots of Waxoyl but a dry patch rusted very rapidly. It is probably worth topping up the insides of the sills once a year. I hope it doesn't extend too far. A bit late now but checking an maybe opening up the drain holes is worthwhile. regards David I have owned this car for coming up to 11 years. Both sides? Day trip to Yeadon if you're up for it. Chris. That looks like a bundle of fun. If you want some help (read as someone to hinder you and take the p1&$) give me a call.

I hope it's a cut out and cover job, in which case it can be knocked off quite quickly, but really, who knows? I've got another 'crab coming in on the 22nd, so it needs to be sorted a bit sharpish. Chris.

Snoopy - you may be required to mop Chris's brow (or, more likely, dry his tears when he starts poking with his screwdriver! ) I can't even reach the floor nowadays

Bullyboy - thanks, but it will be Chris feeling the pain when he tackles the repairs!!
Hope it makes it safely to him without losing anything - wheel, suspension, driver disappearing through the floor!

Mo is now safely in the hands of Chris - whose garage floor no longer looks neat and tidy!
I did take some photos but they were thought too horrific for those of you on here of a nervous disposition Chris will produce some later showing the finished results of his remarkable skills,
Thanks Chris

Yep.. That's made a mess on the garage floor.
Looks like the rust worm got a good hold there.

Shame the MOT man didn't spot it back in March!
At least the expert repairs are looking good
This middle age lark is no good - I am knackered this morning after my trip. I used to be able to make Durham to Exeter and back in a day, and suffer watching Exeter City lose as they always did when I was there
Tempus fugit or something like that
