Hi Chris Yes i thought that, and i have had to go with a green carpet as well, not factory but i couldn't pin down the right carpet/car colour combination so ordered a green set from Coverdales(yet to arrive). Good job i like green but not sure how factory original it is. But anyway it should look good and at least i know its all done right with no rust anywhere(give it a few months), with all the running gear replaced or fixed/refreshed and should also drive nice. Just contimplating KN air filter/s, with the tubular exhaust should be quite nippy as well.
I also have a new name for him "8-Ball" hopefully an explanation in photo's soon
I have tried to keep it original with period modifications i.e. minilight wheels, sport 15" steering wheel, etc but everything i have added can be put back to original, at a risk of starting a posting war with the purists this is the way i wanted it and hopefully enhances the drivability of the car because thats what its for.
I am hoping to be a Tatton in July(i think) but probably on my club stand but certainly will be doing more landcrab meeting around the country fingers crossed

It looks absolutely stunning! Great work!
The colour combination is indeed factory original. Don't remember the names of the colours, the body parts catalogue has the info of combinations.
Anyway, I've broken a couple of Swedish 1800s which had exactly these colours from factory. Green exterior, green seats and door cards and green carpets. And of course the mk 1 and 2 engines should be BMC green.

If you don't mind, I'd like to copy your idea of the gear knob. What size is the thread inside the pool ball - if you're happy to share? Also be interested in how you get on with the 15" wheel - I've been humming and ha-ing about what size to get as noted elsewhere. Thanks Andrew

Thanks Andrew Hi Andrew Yeah not a problem to me, i think its 3/8 BSWhitworth, but i will confirm later as a mate of mine did it, i was using the 15" steering wheel before i took it of the road and didn't have any problems, a little heavy but not a issue. Sorry i was going to ask are you using a KN filter if so which one cause the servo seems to block suitable access for normal filters Paul

Yes I've got a pair of K&N's and at the time was going through my "fastest landcrab in the west phase" so i also got the little stub stacks K&N do which go inside the filters and are supposed to improve airflow etc. www.rimmerbros.co.uk/ItemSearch--search-Stub-Stacks--srcin-1I'm pretty sure it was these filters I got as I wanted them as thin as poss..they weren't that price ! www.moss-europe.co.uk/air-filter-kn-hs6-centre-hole-45mm-kn56-1400a.htmlMost of the time I get stuff direct from K&N now. Am presuming steering wheel was semi dished ? Would you go any smaller or is 15" the one to go for? Thanks for the info re the pool ball - but I'll wait for definite before I start making holes! As I'm sure you're aware you get more of an induction sound when accelerating with the K&N's which you either like or not - on a neutral throttle I find it no diff to standard.

You will need a dished wheel and possibly a spacer block as well. If you don't get the positioning correct the ergonomics will be out and it will feel like you are reaching for the wheel.

Oh dear. I had assumed that Andrew was a man of taste and subtltey. But, welding is welding - you'll have to get it chromed afterwards though. Chris.

Hi All Not to my taste that chain steering wheel, i do remember them but too many holes to break fingers in. I am in the garage tomorrow nigth i will fit the steering wheel i have and post some photos. Did those kn filter not foul on the brake servo i don't seem to have that much space, i have ordered some stub stacks should be here tomorrow so i can make a judgement on filters then. I love the sound of the kn filters but as you say not to everyones taste, but the car came with a stainless steel tubular exhaust, now has new 88g MGB cam and the head machined for unleaded with new valve etc. it would be rude not to try and squeeze a few more horses if i can.
I will put some more photo up soon

I got these but took them off as too noisy. Hi Did those ones fit next to the brake servo then? are they just pancake filter or KNs? Paul
