That's good news on cleaner front. My disappearing water trick on Bristol is most likely a head gasket but unlike an 1800 there's two heads and all the carb gubbins has to come off as it's all on top of engine. Hopefully heads will be OK but makes sense to overhaul them as last looked at 20+ years ago and while I'm at it new water pump, thermostat, front pulley oil seal etc etc. Am trying to be philosophical - it's done 500 miles in last 6 years with previous owner and then 3,500 in 4 months in quite a spirited fashion with me. Something was bound to give I guess....

Dave
I appreciate you are having difficulty working on the car but as Andrew says you need to ensure everything is moving smoothly as it should on the carb linkages before dismantling.
Andrew
We've seen videos of your spirited driving, sounds like a good idea to take the heads off especially is the water is disappearing so fast before any serious damage occurs.

Sailed through MOT today, no advisories
Merc tested just after her and again pass with no advisories
Now,after a full afternoon in a perishing garage I am shaking with cold and trying to thaw. Not good as I have been somewhat unwell recently, requiring the attendance of a blues and twos ambulance 😳
At least the girls are fit for another year

Well done, Dave, great result. Don't give in, but try not to overdo it.
Take care of yourself,
Chris.

Still running rich Andrew. When funds allow a new carb will be fitted. She rarely goes out so I don’t think she over pollutes the already toxic air around here

Tend to agree - if it ain't broke - as long as it's not fouling the plugs too often why bother. For what it's worth I wouldn't spend your money on a new carb...SU's are pretty much rebuildable forever (triggers broom again) and the new one will still need setting up. All the various bits and bobs are available from Burlen the trick will be finding the holy grail - that person that has tons of experience on SU carbs, comes with no preconceived ideas, has an exhaust gas analyser, and doesn't charge the earth. Good luck with that search. All the best Andrew

Woke Mo from her winter slumber this morning and headed off through the sunshine to pub. Trouble was I couldn’t see out so had to divert into a hand washing facility to clean her. She looked much improved once clean. From a distance the rattle can paintwork looked respectable. She seemed delighted to be out and easily saw off some modern sporty thing at traffic lights 😀 Dave

It’s me that gets the workout with that steering Dave! She is easier than the Merc for me t get in and out of
Thanks Andrew. Will try and use her more this year. Even Rach commented that she could feel the power. Mind you, the Merc has covered 222000 miles so the engine could do with attention. Certainly not up to that. A few years ago Merc dealer ‘repaired’ a V8 I used to own and sent it back firing on 7 cylinders. I dismantled that engine in the open in February, a few yards from the Tyne with the freezing wind around my ears, and got it running on 8. Main dealer hadn’t squeezed the oil out of the hydraulic tappets before refitting. They refunded me over £1000
Chris - you handywork on the floor is still much admired every time she goes in for MOT

Out in Mo yesterday. Came home to the unmistakable smell of very hot grease. Offside rear wheel too hot to touch New bearing being dispatched by Tony
