If you don't mind, I'd like to copy your idea of the gear knob. What size is the thread inside the pool ball - if you're happy to share? Also be interested in how you get on with the 15" wheel - I've been humming and ha-ing about what size to get as noted elsewhere. Thanks Andrew Hi Andrew Yeah not a problem to me, i think its 3/8 BSWhitworth, but i will confirm later as a mate of mine did it, i was using the 15" steering wheel before i took it of the road and didn't have any problems, a little heavy but not a issue. Sorry i was going to ask are you using a KN filter if so which one cause the servo seems to block suitable access for normal filters Paul

Hi Chris Yes i thought that, and i have had to go with a green carpet as well, not factory but i couldn't pin down the right carpet/car colour combination so ordered a green set from Coverdales(yet to arrive). Good job i like green but not sure how factory original it is. But anyway it should look good and at least i know its all done right with no rust anywhere(give it a few months), with all the running gear replaced or fixed/refreshed and should also drive nice. Just contimplating KN air filter/s, with the tubular exhaust should be quite nippy as well.
I also have a new name for him "8-Ball" hopefully an explanation in photo's soon
I have tried to keep it original with period modifications i.e. minilight wheels, sport 15" steering wheel, etc but everything i have added can be put back to original, at a risk of starting a posting war with the purists this is the way i wanted it and hopefully enhances the drivability of the car because thats what its for.
I am hoping to be a Tatton in July(i think) but probably on my club stand but certainly will be doing more landcrab meeting around the country fingers crossed

Wow - thanks for that - looking great. Hope the knee gets better. Any frustrating parts of the re-assembly or has it all gone according to plan? Cheers Andrew Hi Andrew Thanks for that, not really just putting other people botches right and sourceing parts, not that i really had a plan. It will still be a work in progress as i will eventually re unholster, headlining and new glass all round paul

Hi All I have been reading this with interest, i have just done a partial rebuild of my engine, new oil pump, camshaft, rocker shaft, tappets, gaskets, timing gear, oil seals and a few other bits and bobs. I did the usual before start up where you turn the engine without spark until the oil light goes out. I have also just fitted a brand new mechanical oil pressure gauge. When i was happy i went for a start and oil pressure light went straight out and now reading between 60-70psi which i thought was good, the problem i have is that the gauge doesn't drop on tick over which the book says should be around 25psi, i haven't run for too long and i did coat all moving parts during the build with oil so hopefully no damage has occured, i am just wondering if this oil bleeding could be causing me this issue or ahould i be bleeding the oil gauge pipe.

I feel your pain, it amazes me that they all have the same problems in the same areas, poor repairs in the past also seem to be a common factor. Good luck and it will al be good in the end

Cheers, Paul. I think that there not being all that much repair or reconstruction required has helped. Getting the finishers for the wing bottoms took ages to get right, but then again I haven't had to remake half the floor and inner sills. Anyway, last bits done. Wing bottom tacked home, sill into primer, floor and arches have been undersealed and stone chip applied along the bottom surface of the sill. Hi Chris As you say at least you had something to weld too, still great progress. Paul

thanks chaps, small set back
I was bleeding the brakes the other day and stared losing alot of fluid with no evidence of fluid externally. Eventually fluid slowly crept out of the vacuum pipe of the servo, obviously a seal must be passing or stuck in the servo. I had rebuilt the servo with all new seals etc, followed all the instructions, downloaded exploded diagrams, double checked everything, everthing perfectly clean and still i failed. I have spoken to JL spares who supplied the kit and they agreed to test and repair it for me at a reduced cost. So i have had to strip the servo out and send it off, so can't drop the car on to its wheel yet. Luckily no fliud has got on the paint work.
These things are sent to try us.
Paul
