It was the turn of the Landcrab to do the pub run today. She started first touch of the key (2 weeks since she was last started) and ran perfectly on the outward journey.
Came to go home and she started then spluttered to a stop as I tried to pull away. Engine wouldn't restart so I thought I had flooded her. Waited a few minutes and away she went, but not happy. I was lucky with traffic lights and roundabouts so didn't have to stop and managed the 15 miles back into the City then I did have to stop at 1 corner. Engine stalled and wouldn't restart. Looked under bonnet and the top had come off the emission (breather) control valve. I managed to recover the seal which had welded itself to the exhaust downpipe, and the top and the 'other bit' were recovered from behind the inlet manifold, the coil spring was still in situ. Turned the starter and she fired and went 400 yards until a set of lights 200 yards from home. She stalled again and would it 'eck restart this time. Thankfully on a downhill slope so poor Rach, still full from a large lunch, had to get out and push. Managed to coast to within 50 yards from home when there was a slight incline and a right turn. I got out and tried to help her without success so managed to persuade 2 youths to give a push. Only the 3rd time ever she hasn't got me home (burst bottom hose and I couldn't fine the spare in the very untidy boot, then extraneous bolt somehow getting in and jamming a valve)
Repair kit already ordered. Oh the joys of classic cars
At one point I had considered going to visit son this weekend as he lives 3 miles from Brooklands. Not half glad I changed my mind!

I am giving consideration of getting an XJ40 to replace it (auto, so she can drive). Talk me out of it lol. -Andrew In the 1990's I had a Daimler Sovereign, not that old, and it cost me £15,000 in main dealer repairs over the 2 years I had it. Friend has a Daimler Double Six VDP which has been languishing in a 'specialist' garage since October as they cannot find what is causing an engine misfire so the engine doesn't run. Mercedes much better option!

Reading about your battle with the doors and now the bonnet makes me even more sad that the approx 16 doors and 5 bonnets, all virtually rust free, together with just about any part you can mention, were allowed to go from a club near here to the scrap man. Seems I contacted the wrong person in the Landcrab club in an attempt to save them. Still, one lives, learns, and in this case, regrets
Hope the professional help manages to rescue something

Chris - on the odd occasions I have had to use filler in freezing conditions I found I needed my heat gun to 'assist' the setting off.
More great work

A firm once told me a Moggy I owned would have a 25% excess as a modified vehicle because ....... it was painted a different colour to when it left the factory (although still blue) and had a red instead of a blue interior. I insured her elsewhere

OK - so it's not a Landcrab, but it is quiet in here so thought I should do a Blue Peter and 'Here is one I made earlier' I had finished restoring my beloved Cath (Morris Minor, sadly sold earlier this year) and fancied doing something else so the ubiquitous ebay offered this. Bit of a state. Divorce and the ex husband had left it in the garage and the wife just wanted rid. Those bits were collected on a recovery truck, and the rest in the back of a rather large van. Bit of poking around So let the work begin There was no useable wood or aluminium panels. Panels bought new off the shelf, and a complete set of wood purchased from a guy who had had it stored for years. The car is 1968 ad the wood was wrapped in newspaper dated 1967 A rough mock up and further welding Metal bends, wood doesn't, so it was a case of see where the wood sits and move the metal accordingly 4 new wings fitted, front pattern metal, rear glass fibre, then get some paint on (all the blue was sanded off prior to painting - guess who now has asthma!) New front panel The wood is wrapped in cling film. Roof is held on by carpet tacks through the gutter channel Engine checked, cleaned and painted Wood reattached to body Engine dropped in There was no interior with the car, so good old eBay again. I found (sepatately) a set of green seats and door cards, and a dark green set of carpets. Carpet for the back was an offcut from a local warehouse Underlay Back completed Interior fitted Wheels sandblasted (bead actually) masked, and painted Finished and doesn't look too bad Flew through its MOT and I sold it to someone in the Irish Republic. I agreed to deliver her to Stranraer and the day before I was due to travel took her for a spin - and she jumped out of third gear. Oh, good (or words to that effect) Quick call to a mate for a replacement gearbox, hour to fit and all good. IF my memory serves me correctly, the car was £250, wood £350, other panels and parts (including new radiator, tank and tyres) about £650 Took 10 months of my life to do the job. Yes that is a working (family owned) garage so expert help there if required. Poor Rachael has refused to work on any more vehicles!

Nicked from another site, I was looking at this and very surprised to find several photos of Mo - thankfully taken at a time when I was still able to paint so she looks very respectable. I recognised other cars as well www.simoncars.co.uk/

Had one on mine for a very short time - always very noisy. Couldn't wait for the new mechanical one to arrive. It is now languishing somewhere in the boot - one step away from being discarded. Yes it does still work.

Oh s......ugar. Had her to pub at lunchtime. Thought all was well until 7 miles when ... smoke
Think I will put a new slave cylinder and pushrod on (have spare somewhere, if I can find them. I have space in a communal storage area and stuff is piled, in boxes, in a heap with very little room to move around)
Watch this space

If anyone is interested, these came with my car. The purchase order form is foolscap and my scanner A4 so the BMC Retail Order Form, Purchasers Copy heading has been cropped. I have pixelated the buyers name and address.
Reverse of form
and the original sales invoice
The original car sticker for The Morris Garages is still on the car.
Interesting that the Danube Blue was by no means the first choice of colour. The car was purchased outright without the need for Hire Purchase, and the original owner had it from 1969 until 1997. I have owned her for 8 years

Did the job this morning and am now licking my wounds (back and legs really painful) but at least Mo is roadworthy again
Odd thing though. The repair kit I had, the end rubber cover was minute, not the right size at all, so I had to re use the old one

Thanks guys. Have been down and checked ..... and yes the push rod from the slave cylinder has stuck out. Worked it a bit and could feel it snagging on something and there is a small fluid leak. I will remove the cylinder (I have a full repair kit for it) ASAP and report back. Can't do it this afternoon as madam is asleep and if she wakes and I am not here, without telling her, then she will freak. I will try and do the job tomorrow. Biggest difficulty is bleeding as she is unable to comprehend the idea of pushing a pedal to the floor and holding it there until I tell her to release it. Will see when a friend can come over to help.
No oil drip (well, not from the bottom of the housing anyway)
