www.fueltanks.co.ukUsed them to bring mine back from the dead…they may be able to help. Mine was pretty rubbish when I handed it over and their system seems to work, well I never had any subsequent problems. Otherwise as you say it’s a remortgage to get one fabricated or a waiting game. Cheers Andrew

My G valve issues started after a marque specialist had redone all the plumbing!

Take your pick from these! I had problems with aftermarket servos but not feel related just not working. And then one of the replacements did work and worked forever! Just luck of the draw. The only similar ish problem I had was it felt like the brakes were slow to release. Worse when you really stood on them. Couldn’t figure it out then when doing an auto test I braked extremely hard and car locked up and wouldn’t release but 10 mins later all was fine! As Dave was suggesting, that turned out to be the G valve which had been plumbed in the wrong way round…easy mistake to make apparently. Good luck Andrew

I’d already done the alternator conversion so don’t know! re the install of power steering on mine it was under the parcel shelf. It was noticeable but in reality I was the only one that remarked on it. Everyone else looks out of the window!

Yes that’s what I liked, if it goes wrong or flat battery it’s just back to how you are at the moment! It does transform the experience…and it’s nice and simple. The chap is a perfectionist so I had him supply and fit. It was about £1200 but that was 6 years ago…although he did do some other work tidying up bits and bobs whilst he was in there. It also encouraged others in the family to drive it more as it was easier to manoeuvre when parking in particular.

en-gb.facebook.com/electricpowersteering/These are the people I used. It’s basically a unit that’s part of steering column. It’s not speed sensitive so you have a little dial so you can turn assistance up and down. Took the opportunity to do away the rubber thing with holes in at bottom of column and have a rose joint - from memory- no noticeable increase in harshness or anything. if you go on the Facebook thing above, my old car is somewhere around June 2017. The guy is worth a chat with and is happy to supply the kit if you want to do it yourself. This is the fellow unwinding!

Mine was a non power steering car and bumping up the tyre pressures makes a huge difference. I also ended up replacing all the bushes and just about everything else in the front suspension! Which made an enormous difference…much more than you’d think. All the parts were fine for MOT purposes but I guess some were 50 years old and just tired. I did finally go with electric power steering which was excellent but as Penguin says a few extra pounds will make all the difference. For normal running around I also used 30 up the front, rears 26.

Second that….for all my electronic preferences I still carry the old dizzy just in case on long runs!

I’ve used accuspark kits on both my old boat which ran a Ford Crossflow and the Model A which has as a similar engine and never had a problem with either. On the 1800 I used a 123 programmable dizzy which was brilliant which is expensive but enabled me to get the best out of a modified engine. On the Bristol I’ve gone for Mallory electronic dizzy and it’s perfect! I’d probably go with accuspark if I were you….. Good luck with whatever you decide . Cheers Andrew

Glad to hear you're still plugging (!!) away....I'm still beached at the moment....waiting for parts on the one hand (Bristol) and coming to terms with the joys of mixing old Model A parts with new repro/hot rod stuff which only really wants to work with other new hot rod stuff so quite a bit of lathing (if that's a word) and other fettling going on. I'm sure I'm inventing the wheel/making heavy weather of it but it's all new to me! Cheers Andrew In my more reflective moments I do sometimes wonder why I didn't just stick with the 1800
