David Mobile mechanic came again today and new head gasket fitted. He has just texted me to say he torqued the bolts to 40 ft/lb and is wondering if they are tight enough. He wants to tighten them to 70 ft/lb. I think the manual says 45 What do you think? Dave If he puts 70 ft/lb on em they will certainly shear/strip, its 45 ft/lbs for a reason, I would be wary of a mechanic who questions the manufacturers setting !!!

Ive never really found what I would describe as a "Good" footbrake on any of my past Landcrabs, and talking to many other owners they seem to have the same too ! Wooden feeling and brakes either sticking on and slow to release is a bit of a problem even when the cars were new. Hit em hard n they can Lock on tight sometimes !! I know we shouldn"t compare with modern cars but my 107 Peugeot has a 9" servo and a touch of the pedal is all thats needed with a good progressive feel ! I understand our cars are a heavy old thing but they really should have a better system ??
Chris.

My bet is the radiator is blocked , if it won"t clear by flushing and/or using a descaling product I would be getting a new rad, not much leeway with the cooling on the 1800 if a couple of waterways are blocked up, Ive had it in the past and had to fit a new rad, sorted .....

My usual way is get the car up on sturdy axle stands, get it started in a high gear , run it up a bit and with foot on clutch, hit the brakes, usually does it 1st time (Y) Good luck
