She's not been out much of late - had a little run down to Barnsley and back (70 miles) on Sunday; ran very nicely, 65mph on the motorway and the odd faster moments to get past stuff.
LOCI meeting Tuesday evening, so I'll be heading up to York for a chat. Might get to use the driving lights on the way back...... ;D

lol gotta get your moneys worth, right?
My black plastic fantasic spotties weren't too popular on another forum and someone has mentioned they have a set of Lucas styled ones, I may be tempted. But not fussed really. I might see if I can take the silly black covers off the front of mine at least.
Oh yea, with the LOCI, do you need to be a member to access the spares/parts?

Yes, there were ratio changes over the years, and of course, they went from cable to rod selector.
I can look it up for you, but not now.....

Given that it was 1:00am over there I don't expect you to lol!
The joys of different time zones aye. Yeah I had a feeling the ratios would of changed, which means the actual gear sizes change doesn't it?
Any ways I can check with it in place would be great. So I got rods, that's Mk I, but an 18H engine. I would of thought whoever changed it over would of just used the gearbox that was on the 18H engine, but you never know.

Decided this afternoon to have a go at fixing reversing light. Took the cover plate off the gear selector and could see the wiring was mashed and thus shorting the circuit. Cut out the flat section, yikes! Connected the wiring back up with some bullets, luckily the wiring was long enough to handle the section being removed. And we were good to go! First time I've ever had this light working, I'm quite chuffed! -Indy

Oh dear oh dear...... I did a U-turn and then I hear thud thud thud.... Thought I had popped a tyre, but no. Much worse! Looks like one of my universal joints has just snapped itself to bits I'm guessing it's a UJ anyways. I drove her home which was about a 1km or so away. Knew I shouldn't of, I had no idea what the problem was at the time, but it was 11:20pm and dark. So looks like I'm gonna have a big work shop bill!.....lucky me! I wouldn't of harmed the engine at all would I? Cheers, Andrew

That happens, had this happening once too:-) you should be ok, but need a new coupling kit, that is coupling, fasteners, nuts. It's most likely due to one or more og the four rubber parts coming lose from the metal cross.
Not difficult to change, losen all nuts on the coupling, remove top ball joint and steering track rod, and you will be able to get a new one into place. Do not fasten coupling's nuts before the wheel is at ordinary level for driving, that is not hanging down as when jacked up.
The operation is well described in your manuals.
Good luck:-)
Tommy:-)

Tommy - I connected the driveshafts on mine yesterday using the method described but I tightened the nuts before landing the car down.
Will it be ok? or have I ballsed up again!

Hi! I think it's best to tighten them when driveshaft is level, either car on the ground or a piece of wood between upper suspension arm and lower bump rubber when jacked up. I can't confirm if this is crucial, but it is likely that there could be some twisting between the driveshaft/ differential shaft and the coupling otherwise when suspension is level.
Well, I did it this way but I still have quite some driveshaft shake at low speed. Suppose I have a bent driveshaft or something..
Regards, Tommy

Cheers guys, sorry to sound like a complete novice, but what exactly is that X shaped rubber thingie? (I take it that's the UJ going by my manual) and what will I need to source to hopefully make her all better.
If you reckon I can do it myself then I'll give it a crack aye. Would it come under driveshaft in the manual?
Cheers,
Andrew

It's the drive shaft coupling - yours is of the type known as a "hairy rubber spider".
There are three types -
1/ The universal joint type as used on the automatics (See pics in my thread). 2/ The nylon type, which is supposed to be rather harsh on the transmission but is more robust than the rubber one. 3/ The rubber type which is probably the most popular.
2 + 3 will interchange without any modifications. They are retained by two "U" bolts; when you shove the drive shaft back home, the spider will self-align and you just slide the "U" bolts home. Easy peasy.
There's nothing much in the manual about it, but it's really pretty obvious.
Chris.

Cheers Chris.
Sounds like even I could do it, keef just pointed me to ebay and the LOCI site. Plenty around. I'll check closer to home at the Wolseley club and see, if not luck I'll go through the LOCI.
So in driving it home I may have damaged the drive shaft? I was worrying I was messing up the engine or something! should of seen my face!
Anyways, it's Guy Fawkes night over there, get out!
