Hi all can I pic your thoughts again please. Has anyone bought carpets from coverdale ? thoughts on colour match, fit, is everything edge bound? Also has anyone redone their headlining? if so again thoughts on what fabric to use and where to purchase it would be great. By the way the door cappings are now all re veneered and looking lovely just going through the varnish sand varnish sand repeat repeat repeat stage.
Thank you in advance for any info Louise.

I have a Coverdale set in my 18/85, which was bought quite a few years ago now. Overall, a pretty satisfactory experience. The fit over the hump where the transmission tunnel is on your car wasn't great as the carpet isn't steam moulded, but, being honest, you do have to look to see the slack fit.
MrsP made the headlining (And she isn't making another one - ever!). My car originally had a sort of sharkskin effect vinyl which I couldn't find anywhere, so in the end opted for the perforated vinyl which Woolies sell.
Chris.

Hi Louise
The head lining is on my to do list, so unfortunately I can't offer any advice, but would be very interested in how you go. Lots of pictures are very helpful. A wise person takes pictures of details before and during pulling it apart! Sadly my dad pulled my headlining apart before the car came to Oz so I have no good reference pics.
Good Luck
Nick

I'm down in Cornwall at the moment. I can do some measuring when I get back if that'll help people?

This lot look like they might be worth chatting to on the headliner and carpet front. www.classicmotorcarpets.co.uk/Pages/Classic%20Carpets%20Main%20Page.htmlI've had carpets off the people you mention for a number of cars over the years and they're fine. I got a better fitting result when enlisted help of a trimmer for half an hour on one of the cars rather than me faffing for ages. Also worth renewing / redoing the sound deadening IMHO.

Good point with the sound deadening. Snoopy of this parish used Dynamat with excellent results.

Hi thank you all your replies and the link which looks worth following up on, I will keep you all posted when we do all these jobs, so much info to gather before starting redoing. So sad that Mrs P wont be doing another headlining , maybe I wont even attempt it then!? has anyone used vinylkote? sounds really good but always sceptical, I like to hear from real people that have good or bad experiences with things. Thanks again Louise

Is the headlining just stained and dirty, rather than ripped to pieces? If that is the case, my late friend Mike Jordan used a couple of coats of emulsion on his and it looked the business! I've never tried it and could make an horrendous mess. Well, it will if I use a brush. Which is great in a way, as I'm forbidden to decorate.

Have used Vinylkote in the distant past on seats and to my mind it looks ok - like all painting it's all in the prep and proper spray gun likely to give better results than a rattle can IMHO.

Hi thanks again for the tips and link, the headlining is meant to be light grey and material type, it is in situ and complete but is shall we say 50 years of smoking brown in colour and where the cover pieces come down near the back window they are moth eaten and ripped so all will need replacing in the end. Oh and around the back quarter lights there is a vinyl covering the same colour etc as the seats but the material seems thinner, is this a different type of vinyl ?

Hi I am sorry I have not updated for a while, I have been trying to sus how to get photos from google photos to here, but I cant seem to get it (any help for a dinosaur would be appreciated!!!!). The headlining is now removed along with both front and back windscreens, complete interior and anything else that moves basically, new headlining material purchased sewing machine threaded and ready to go, just building up courage to go for it . All four door wood trims re veneered polished shining and ready to go backin along with most of the rest of the dash, some re veneered some just revamped, I have looked into vinylkote (thanks for the links) seems good and I have spoken to someone that has used it and they were impressed with the results, so when I have a better idea of how much needs replacing or colour touching I will make a final decision on which way to go as vinylkote would cost approx £100 for cleaners, prep, and colour match paint. When I sort the photo thing out I have some good pics of the sills and how clean and good they are considering their age. So for now I hope you enjoy the boring update. Louise.

Hi Louise
Unfortunately we only have very limited storage capacity on the forum website as it is offered to us without charge. The way to post photos is to open a free account with a hosting site such as Flickr. You can then use the "link" option from the menu above (to the left of the letter icon) to your pics uploaded on Flickr and they will appear here as if by magic.
Any problems, please ask again, it is easy after the first time.
David
