Headlights aim, split in exhaust flexi, handbrake are the fails. Got advisories for a couple of boots and slight play in the steering rack. Nothing much, really.

And today's entertainment turned out to be half of the front valance. Chris. More of that later... First of all, the MoT stuff: Fail - Headlamp aim too high. Emptied boot and lowered the aim slightly. Fail - Handbrake inefficient. Got it up on the lift in Mick the Mustang's garage. Freed everything up and reset. Locks nicely now. Fail - Exhaust blowing on front pipe. Annoying as I repaired the flexi not long ago. Chopped out flexi section and fitted a new bit. Needed Mick to give it some beans for the final tightening. Advisories: Dust boot damaged - o/s lower. Sorted. Fuel hose slightly damaged at tank. Sorted. N/s cv boot slightly damaged. Will sort over the next day or so. Play in steering rack inner joint n/s. Not looking forward to this one! Front brake fluctuating but not excessively (both). Last one's got me puzzled. Warped disc is the obvious culprit, but two warped discs? Got .009" runout on the n/s disc and .008" on the o/s one. Advice appreciated. So, having come to a halt, time for some bodywork therapy - the other half of the front valance. Ah - that's better. Hi Chris steering rack inner joint JohnTwist video Have you tried taking of the disks and repositioning them to see if you can reduce the run out? Very strange, I never had problems with warping on my crabs - rust yes! Can you double check the readings and ensure it's not wheel bearing related. David

Thanks for the links, David. Cracked on with the valance. Chopped it all away fully. And some more round here. Quite pldeased with that - got form in three planes. Bumper end bolt bracket repaired and refitted. First fill and flat. I'll finish that off tomorrow and get some paint in there. Chris.

All done. Looks reasonably respectable. WifeBus in for its MoT test on Tuesday, so spent most of the morning sorting out lights and wipers.

Last two pictures reminded me of something. Does anyone know if there is a purpose to that combine harvester cutter plate that is welded behind and below the front bumper? It just seems like a good place to catch rust and downright lethal if you removed front bumper ala Sebring MGB. It's hardly likely to be an aero piece since the cars about as aerodynamic as a small country house. I'm guessing it's just there for appearance sake.

I hit a thrush shortly after leaving home one morning. When I arrived at my destination around 30 miles away, it was sitting on the plate behig the front bumber having experienced the M5 motorway speeds. A few minutes later off it flew, so now you now the purpose! It was a rust trap of course. David Last two pictures reminded me of something. Oh dear. June 2017...... She hadn't turned a wheel since the July. For shame.
Snoopy of this parish came over Sunday and set to with a will to recommision the car. Would she go? Would she 'eck as like. First issue was fuel after we'd checked the levels and fitted a battery. I could smell fuel and Snoopy could smell fuel, but the engine wasn't even trying. Float chamber proved to be empty. Further investigation reveal that the gallon of two year old stale ethanol laced petrol had exited via a split hose at the rear. Possibly just as well really.... Anyway, hoses replaced and she still wouldn't go. No spark now. There is a 1980's ETi electronic ignition (SHUT UP!) fitted. After a short period of head scratching and circuit testing, we realised that the timing light on the ignotion unit wasn't flashing. Oxidised points. Removed dizzy and cleaned and lubricated everything. No improvement. New points eventually and away she went. Freed off rear brakes and has a few tentative runs up and down the road, followed by a trip to the local jet wash.
Today I fitted a new choke cable.
She's clean with horrible paintwork and is going to get some regular exercise.
