Front and rear engine mounts acquired. Can possibly bob over on Saturday with more Hobnobs?
Chris.

Hobnobs, forget the Hobnobs - I want shares in the company. Swap crank pullies he says. Both came off no probs except the timing marks are in different positions so now its the timing cover swap. Lo and behold, the new engine has a single timing chain. Well if you want the duplex fitting its a good job your coming over on Saturday. Use any tools you want.

If you're serious, you'd best text me the address and post code. BUT - then I'll know where the secret hide out is and be able to alert the authorities..... Chris.

MrsP would hunt you down to the ends of the earth with a harpoon gun...... Think Carrie Fisher in the Blues Brothers.... She'll do anything to get her hands on my PIN code.
Chris.

When I put a Mk11 duplex sprocket on a Mk111 crab which also has the single chain and single valve springs, I found the cam timing needed to be reset. Maybe worth checking the Princess 1800 cam timing spec and setting before dismantling? In theory there shouldn't be an issue, but.... David Lo and behold, the new engine has a single timing chain. Well if you want the duplex fitting its a good job your coming over on Saturday. Use any tools you want.

It looks really great. Perhaps Chris needs a perspex bonnet to show it off! Out of interest what did you decide about the chain? A couple of days ago I heard the wonderful sound of a South Yorkshire accent and found out my neighbour has just hired a teacher to help his daughter speak the language as it should be spoken! Do you consider Chris an honorary Yorkshireman or is the three generation rule still in place. I know that having lived in the county for 15 years, I stood no chance of being adopted. After a visit from P45 he has agreed that I am right about the chain. Naturally I am, i'm a Tyke(Yorkshireman) and Tykes are always right = well known fact.

Front and rear engine mounts acquired. Can possibly bob over on Saturday with more Hobnobs? Chris. Got the engine mounts but no Hobnobs. Interest is accruing especially now. Front eng mount mount on back plate too low. 6mm steel acquired and adapter plate being manufactured. Watch this space Think I have found primary reason for oil consumption. Oil filler cap was air tight so no through flow of air. A 2mm hole has been drilled through to prevent this on new engine

I was just going to ask how air comes through that oil filler cap, then I saw your comment. No doubt oil was sucked into the engine then.
Looking good!

The dip stick tube has not been broken off where it enters the block, has it? Happened to me on a Princess block once. They are more fragile than the 1800 screw in type.

Dip stick fine, just removed for painting. Engine bay before. First filler primer. You can see where a previous tart up has reacted on the air scuttle

Today was engine day. Again it's fought back and didn't want to go in. After it had been up and down half a dozen times we gave up and went for a cup of tea and broke out the biscuits that turned up with the last parts delivery.

Suitably fed and watered we got back to it. Off came the alternator and big engine mount as they were catching on things. We found a big bar to lever things, a hammer to persuade things and two hours later it was in. Things would had been easier but the princess engine had an extra bit on the bell housing where an engine mount fits. This kept getting stuck on a bracket for the horns that someone had welded in place. Now I wonder which expert welder would have done that. We unwelded it with a hacksaw and hammer. On a good note, Gordon's new modified front engine mount bracket worked well and the new harvest gold body colour is going to look nice.
