Thanks. The camera picture seems to be a considerable improvement over the one I purchased about 3 years ago despite the plastic lens.

We have made a little progress today with stripping the car. A bloke called Phil seems to be on the lookout for panels so we have started to cut the front off.

Real progress has been to get the engine painted.

Engine coming out. It has fought back all day with bolts that didn't want to come out.

Engine out. Before putting the new one in we will spend a bit of time tidying the engine bay and making it look nice.

We we had a little issue with the drive shaft seals. It seems that the seals and housing on the princess are bigger than the seals on the 1800. The solution was simple. Take the housings off the old engine and put the new seals on them. Our current ant thinking in relation to the circlip issue is to leave ir in place and just knock the 1800 drive shaft past it.

Coo! Looking good, chaps.
Phil seemed a pretty straight up and down chap to me. Can't imagine him particpating in your evil plan..... Or... Am I being paranoid enough?
Chris.

Finally found the shaft which I made a groove on, for fitting in the Princess box with circlip.
The groove itself is 1 mm wide. The centre of the groove is 10 mm from the end of the shaft (spline end). I made it with a hack saw and a file. Don't think it has to be very accurate.

Change the engine i was told - simples. Yeh right
Nothing but problems
As we have later drive shafts I think we'll just ignore the groves.
The drive shaft diff caps are not interchangeable as exterior diameter of seals different. Found 2 stripped threads so now helicoiled. Alternator rear bracket had to be changed as well as thermostat, 2 studs and waterpump. Now Penguin45 has to decide, do we swap the crank pulley or get a longer fanbelt. Pulley on new engine is ~1.25" larger diam so need ~ 100mm longer belt. Also will need to modify alt lower adjust bar as new engine has different mounts.
Let you know what happens

Good to hear of the progress being made. I think you'll need to swap the crank pulley. The larger one is for the power steering set up that came with the engine. Probably best to keep that all together as a set ready for someone to use. Snoopy's electric windy gun will shift it.
Not sure I understand the problems with the engine mount. Last time I modified a bar I got banned for two weeks and had to apologise to the landlady.....
Chris.
