There we go - carrier bolted home. Floor and bottom of sill cut away. Grot now cut off the inside and an new angle section welded inside to the bottom of the inner sill. "T" section made and spot welded together. And it goes in there. That will tidy up nicely, given that upside down lap welding isn't up there among my favourite things. So, inside edge to be welded and that should be just about it for the fabrication. Chris.

And - MoT test failed. Dodgy sidelights on the near side and brake imbalance on the o/s rear brake. Lights sorted. Very dodgy earth from the lamp housing - new earth run to a suitable grounding point has sorted that one out, although I do need to source a new lamp housing. The mazak is in very poor condition and the indicator lamp holder just broke out of the back of the housing when I attempted to clean it. Which is why the indicator bulb is stuck in the hole with Blu-Tak with a couple of wires soldered to it. But - I never told you that.
Brake imbalance. Trouble with this is that you can't test it at home. So, the o/s rear brake has now got a new flexi hose, solid line to the cylinder, new cylinder and retaining clips and my last and only NEW brake drum. The shoes have been de-glazed with some fairly coarse wet and dry. Not much else I can do, really. Should get a re-test tomorrow.
Chris.

Was the imbalance present on both the hydraulic (foot brake) and mechanical (hand brake) test? I hope you don't have imbalance the other direction with all new parts on one side David Brake imbalance. Trouble with this is that you can't test it at home. Well done Chris, time for a beer!
As an aside anyone who has a UK MK111 car (may also apply to sixes) with the brake pressure reducing valve under the car at the rear - (not the valve on the inner wing used on Mk1/11 cars) - the handbrake will give a reading on the rolling road considerably higher than can be achieved with the footbrake. This is not the case Mk1/11 cars so be aware. Australian cars after the early Mk1 changed to dual circuit PBR and I am not familiar with their characteristics. Perhaps our LH drive car owners can fill in the details of what type of reducing valves, if any, were used on vehicles that had the integrated servo and master cylinder. Were these dual circuit brakes?

Today saw me break both cars. This one has been converted to a floor hand brake between the front seats by a PO. I applied the hand brake on a moderate incline and it came off in my hand. The entire lever assembly. I managed to jam a front wheel against the kerb and left the car in gear and went and did the job. Straight back home afterwards and get out the Red Dog. Of which more in a little bit.... Removed front seats and rear carpet and underlay, thus exposing the offending lever. It appears that the PO welded the mounting brackets to the paint on the floor. I'm amazed that it's lasted as long as it did. Anyway, cleaned it all up with the wire wheel in the angle grinder and welded it back into place. That ain't going anywhere. So that put Eugenie back on the road. Chris.

Roadtrip today. Snoopy, the engine crane and I went on a 500 mile round trip today to Cardiff and back and collected: An 1800 Princess engine. This will solve problems for at least four people and was a bargain. Long day, long drive but worth it. Big thanks to Snoopy for coming down with me. Chris.

Calm down, dear. It's only Mark and Gordon. So what's happened is..... She's been parked up for a while due to excessive oil consumption. A spare engine was picked up a while ago, but time has conspired against me with all the structural repairs which I've been doing. Enter Mark and Gordon, who have kindly (?) volunteered to do the swop and some tidying up work. I am really wondering what I've let the car in for. I don't make my customers sign contracts.... Car loaded. Engine loaded. Bye bye. Will I ever see her again? I'll have to trust them. Chris.

Due to to unpaid fines we are now have for spares the above vehicle. Buyers already in place for seats and twin carb set up. All other parts available. Car car and engine has had a good blast with the jet wash to get some of the crud off and is now ready to start stripping the ancillaries. The new engine needs stripping to check it out and ancillaries changing over. After a coat of paint. Is bright pink the correct engine colour for this year of build.

As as the fines have not yet been paid we have started to strip the car. We have started by opening up the engine to have a look inside and change the standard clutch bearing to the P45 'uber' bearing. Someone has spent a great deal of time and expense on this engine. Everything inside is so clean you could eat your dinner off it. The clutch and fly wheel look to be brand new All the unwanted princess ancillaries have been removed and swapped for the Wolseley ones. EUG has fought us all the way today. Jubilee clips would not move or broke. The bottom radiator pipe would not move. She really did not want to give up her bits to the new engine. Its now now just about ready for a clean up and a coat of paint.
