Got it, someone hid a nut inside a pocket next to the lower bearing.

I've gotten this far.I've tried putting some pressure on the joint in the cases but I'm afraid of damaging them. There is some kind of bolt going through that I can't get out.

I have taken my motor and tranny out as well, started to disassemble it and got the head off, the timing gear off, rear cover off the clutch/idler gear. Now I can't get the last bolt off that is holding the clutch cover on to the tranny, the rather large one at the bottom. Any tricks? Or is it just stuck?

I have a 69 MkII with a manual shift. I have the hard copies of the manuals, I was just hoping to find and electronic version I could transport on my tablet, like to the office home etc. I too, could scan it, I was hoping it was already done somewhere. I'm in the USA, Tacoma WA, not far from Victoria BC Charly

I've pulled my motor this weekend, it came out a lot easier than expected. I pulled it out from the top using my hoist and attached my tilt lift to the motor mount connection on the end of the block (flywheel end) and to the head stub nearest the thermostat housing. This gave it the proper balance. I'm starting to disassemble and I'd like to have a pdf of the work shop manual, I sometimes prefer looking at the computer rather than the book. Does anyone know of the manual online for the 1800 (I do have the hard copy)? I've looked and have had no success. Charly

It appears to be a matter of preference or comfort level whether you lift it or drop it out. In the picture it appears you are lifting it on a piece of angle stock bolted to the rocker studs, is that correct? Charly

I have an eye nut that attaches to one of the head studs in place of a nut and a plate with an eye on it which attaches to the thermostat housing. These worked great for lifting the Mini engine, I've had a rocker pedestal stud break of while lifting a MGB motor once, leery about using those any more Charly

I believe I saw this somewhere while surfing and that's why I was wondering which is more practical. Lifting the motor seems harder since there isn't a good place to attach a chain or cable. Or am I missing something? Charly

I have a question I'm going to have to remove the engine out of my Landcrab soon and have been trying to figure out which way is the easiest/best to pull it. Out the top or drop it underneath? Both ways are possible for me. Any pictures of either of these techniques? Thanks, Charly
