I hadn't realised the rubber ended up so close to the valve plate like this. Thanks Nick I wondered about that too. In fact it doesn't. The displacer has been cut in two, so a small part of the metal in the middle is missing. So it is, well spotted Peter. I didn't notice the second crimp missing! Much easier to see thanks Chris. Nick

Nice picture Peter That shows the shape of the rubber spring very nicely thanks. I hadn't realised the rubber ended up so close to the valve plate like this. Thanks Nick

I also have NOS units, so I wouldn't be in a position in needing your units, should you choose to get them remanufactured in the future. This may also be the case with other owners. I hope this helps in your decisions. Cheers, Jason Hi Jason Well done for saving displacers. I also think the car is no good without the original suspension. I have done the same and tryed to keep good units for future use. Unfortunately the used units can suffer badly from inturnal rust when left open to air, out of the car. It is a good thing to have NOS units too as you may need them! Hence our concerns over replacements! Is there any chance you could post a couple of pictures of the hose end of your 1800 NOS displacers. I am interested in the as new shape of the rubber at hose end of both a front and rear displacer, if you have both types. Most used units have some deformation of the shape of the rubber. Particularly interested in a front unit as I don't have any nice examples to go by. Any information we can get is helpfull to the cause. Particularly if new units are to be made! Thanks Nick

If anyone is interested I have a 2200/Six NOS clutch plate, a water pump and an oil filer surplus. Make me an offer if you are interested. Otherwise heading for autojumble. They are in the UK in kent for pick up, or can be posted at cost.

Not quite sure what you mean. Both ends of the displacer flex - the push rod end is intact on this one. Chris. Glade all is well. Sorry yes I should gave made it clearer. The pushrod end is a diaphragm and the pipe end is a rubber spring. Both ends move yes. If you haven't cut one up to look, you won't have seen it as a diaphragm. I am trying to track down a diaphragm that is in good condition. It needs to be from a displacer that is not repairable by current means. I don't want to waste precious good units. I have a couple or rear units in my shed and one has a very good diaphragm, but the displacer is good so I dont want to waste it! I am looking into making new diaphragms hence needing a good example. Would you consider cutting this one up if the diaphragm is in good condition? When I say good condition what I am looking for is uniform shape ie no lumps in the rubber and smooth not perished. Hairline cracks in the rubber won't matter though. Thanks Nick

Glad to hear that the car isn't back down Chris.
How does the diaphragm look on the leaking one in the picture? The reason I ask is I am looking for a good diaphragm from a rear unit.

Don't start, don't start, you. Rubber around the hose fitting cracked = leak. Chris. Hi Chris Is the picture of the replacement you just put on or the old unit? Nick

Le lapin est suicidaire. Chris. The rabbit has underwear? Interesting! Well I can only console you by saying at least the rabbits underwear will come off easily Chris! Nick

Now that sounds like a plan Aaron. Twin cam giddy up! I probably don't have the technology to do it sadly, unless it was a bolt on job. I have an mgb crossflow head sitting in a box waiting for me to use one day, but I want to fuel inject it and don't have the money for that yet! I have read mixed reviews about them since I got it 5 or six years ago unfortunately! As I said before a single cam engine is not very ideal and not going to break any records as a VVT. Best I can hope for is to spread the power out a bit!
