If anyone here is considering a cylinder head overhaul for their crab or has problems after having one, I suggest reading Tony C's excellent article in his December newsletter. It is quite an eye opener as to what can go wrong if you choose the wrong company. You will need to be a member (free) to dowload the article which includes useful Australian and UK part numbers. I recently came across a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) No 75a5 for the MGB issued in August 1975 that noted "The cylinder head torque on the MGB can be increased from 45-50 lbs /feet to 50 to 55 lbs feet." Note the use of "can" not "should". There is nothing to indicate the engine numbers to which this applies or any additional instructions than add the TSB to the w/s manuals. Does anyone have details in w/s manuals of post August 1975 engines used in the Princess/Marina/Sherpa/ MGB to see if there is any further information. It seems strange that this is some 13 years after the MGB was introduced. Maybe it is a solution to the blowing between cylinders? I would hesitate to recommend adding torque to tired head nuts. The 18-22 Series WM (AKM3210 - Feb 1975) states 45-50lb/ft.

Thanks both for the info. The TSB is headed "BL Austin MG" dated August 75 so is later than Chris' 18-22 w/s manual. It only mentions the MGB and not the Austin 1800 18-22, Marina etc. I would have thought there should have been a read-across but then again BL in the 70s!
