Hello fellow Landcrab owners,I think it's time to get the 1885 back on the road after a rest in a shed for 9 years.
I've owned 7 austins, wolseleys and morris 1800/2200 over the years.
I restored my second car I owned (MK111 AUSTIN 1800) when I was 22 years old which I bought with a slipping clutch for a £100.
After welding it up and respraying it I fitted a 1800S cylinder head and twin 1 3/4 su carb's and the tubular ex manifold which made it a bit more zippy.
Being young that car was soon badly damaged after crashing in to a ditch.
My interest in the 1800 was born when my mum and dad bought a 1800S from my uncle.
That car ended it's day's on the banger track after many years of good service.
My most interesting project was a wolseley 1885 I bought and after collecting a sherpa van with a 1800 diesel engine and the most important part( a ring gear from a automatic 1800 diesel sherpa)I fitted the engine on to the landcrab gearbox along with a princess diff.
This I learnt about after reading my favourite book(How to tune the B series engine)
It went very well and not as bad as you might think.
That car was broken up for parts after a relationship brake up and a change of priorities.
Our current wolseley has a gas conversion which I fitted from a scrap car, but it was not used for many days before the wife bought a range rover classic diesel to use and the wolseley was parked up.
The main problem with the wolseley was the worn engine (burning large amounts of oil)and the car had the tendencey to stall at junctions which then was a problem to get restarted because of the starter motor being flung out after the first fire of the engine which was not enough to get it going
( pre engaged starter need)
Happy Christmas to all.
