Hi everyone I have a 1967 Morris 1800 mk 1.5 export model first registered in Zambia in 1968. We have owned and loved/hated this car ever since! Having laid up the car in about 1986 over the last few years have decided to restore the car and keep as our classic. All has been going as well as can be expected [she will fight me every step of the way] had the engine rebored, head upgraded to lead free, rebuilt it myself with new pistons bearing etc- followed with rebuilt SU and distributor. Converted the old style oil filter to a spin off filter- fitted with a Motaquip VFL 100 filter as supplied with the kit. Tried to start up this weekend and she fired up - sounds great but oil is pouring from above the adaptor at full pressure. Has anyone come accross this problem before, I feel as though perhaps the filter is not big enough to handle the flow/ pressure almost tempted to refit the originals if only I could remember where they were....................
Any help pppppppplllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeeeee
Mike

It sounds like the seal is missing from the top of the sandwich plate. You'll have to drop it down to check, but every one of these kits I've ever seen needs a rubber seal at the top.

I get GFE166 for the filter, BTW - same as spin-on for the MGB.
VFL100 seems to be listed for some Transits, Skodas and Volvos.

Thanks Chris-you are correct there is no ring between adaptor and the original sandwich plate- there wasn't one with the kit I should have suspected! Fortunately I belong to MGOC [he an MGB roadster] and have ordered seals and a filter without non return vale, Should be here on Thursday will let you know
many thanks Mike

Hi Chris, sorry for delay am on holiday at moment, yes the problem is fixed- tried the rings from the MGOC but didn't fit [funny same engine? ] so bought a filter kit for 1800 on line complete with sealing rings and bingo all is ok. On return will carry on the work brake bleeding next! p.s. anyone want a filter for original fitting will send on when we return in October. MIKE

if you had the inverter type filter arrangement as fitted to mk11 Australian models, you could use a z9 filter which now has an anti drain back valve. fords with z9's have the threaded rod as a standard part, although I do not no the part number. apparently you can spit it in half for two Austin 1800 conversions.
