Had to change the flasher unit a few days ago and there was a feeble earth wire about 12" long under one of the screws. As I was trying to bare extra wire at the end to reattach the whole thing fell off
Bearing in mind i am disabled with limited access to difficult areas, has anyone any idea where the thing should fit? I do know that since it fell off the warning lights and radio don't work.
Most frustrating

I had similar problems on my 18/85, but that's one screw and the whole dash front pulls away letting you straight in whilst sitting in the drivers seat. I presume you've got to get up behind the strip speedo - how easy is it to pull that clear? I haven't got that far with the Austin yet.

Chris mentioned this was relatively easy on the Wolseley, but my experience with the Austin strip type speedometer is that you need to be a contortionist. I suspect they started with the speedo and built the car around it . My advice would be to run a new earth or earths as necessary to the most convenient location behind the parcel shelf. The flasher unit is located on the offside of the bulkhead, just round from the drivers door so no need to remove the dash (that is a pain) - as David suggests, the car is built around that speedo which is a no access area! This earth wire was located on one of the screws into the bulkhead but have no idea where the other end went - I should have looked before attempting to clean the end of the wire. I thought it would be securely connected ..... but wasn't.
If I can't find a suitable midget to cram into the foot well to look, I will just have to dose up on painkillers and pretend to be a contortionist. The joys of classic motoring!

If the radio has stopped working try running a wire from the body of the radio to ground. If you remove the ash tray you should be able to poke a wire, carefully, onto the radio case. If it works it may be possible to secure it and if you are really lucky your warning lights may come back on as well. It sounds as though it is missing an earth to the speedo body if you mean the warning lights inside the speedo. It can be accessed from beneath but you may need the contortionist . It does seem a bit odd though the radio and speedo normally earth to the metal dash OK. good luck regards David The flasher unit is located on the offside of the bulkhead, just round from the drivers door so no need to remove the dash (that is a pain) - as David suggests, the car is built around that speedo which is a no access area! Taken radio out. A couple of years ago I was ill and a friend put a new ignition switch in for me. His wiring was atrocious and had come apart meaning there was no live feed to either the radio or warning lights. Proper connections have now been fitted and all works well. That feeble earth wire doesn't appear to do anything.
I must point out that no midgets were abused or injured in the completion of this repair
Thanks for the advice guys

Well done. Always nice to find a simple solution. The wiring behind the dash on the Wolseley was a complete b@ggers muddle. An awful lot of wire came out and the number of doubled-up earths was quite astonishing. I assume that a PO just kept adding bits as stuff dropped out of circuit.
