Hope someone can help - I know the rocker clearance is .015 when cold, anyone know what it should be once the engine is hot? Cheers Andrew

As Chris says 0.013" hot. Remember HOT means really hand burning hot and the check to be done quickly before it cools, so not very popular. If you have a later engine (Mk111)with the lighter tappets, single valve springs and longer pushrods the COLD setting is 0.013. I have seen (and used) tuning recommendations that suggest better cold settings are 0.015 for exhaust and 0.014 for inlet valves but could never notice any difference. Avoid setting too tight as it will reduce performance and prevent proper valve seating, too loose and camshaft wear increases. If you get a regular loud ticking from one (or more)valve train have a look at the rocker shaft for wear and the tappets for wear and damage.
