This is quite interesting if a trifle lengthy. It's an RAC analysis of our car ownership patterns and the life cycle of cars. Pinched from POPULAR CLASSICSChris.

Thanks, some interesting statistics. It would be good if there was model specific data available too. David This is quite interesting if a trifle lengthy. It's an RAC analysis of our car ownership patterns and the life cycle of cars. Pinched from POPULAR CLASSICSChris.

A good read Chris, I did a little bit of fag packet analysis based on the scrappage rate for 20 year old cars. It's quite alarming to think that 60% of all 20 year old cars you see on the roads today won't make it to the end of the year. For us in the UK that's "L" and "M" reg cars. I worked out that if you have 1,000 cars at 20 years old now, there will only be 28 of them left on the road in 7 years time!
The recession has kept the growth of the car parc at bay. According to SMMT data it was still at 31 million at the end of 2012.
