Might be a long shot, but does anyone know much about diesel injector pump timing?
I've replaced the timing belt on my Rover 600 diesel, and she's just a bit smokey now. I've got it all set up correct I'm sure (i.e. the locking pin works for the pimp sprocket)
Any ideas? I'm guessing it's too retarded and it's pumping in more diesel after the combustion? ....or I'm completely wrong _b
Cheers,
Andrew

Sorry Indy - no idea really.
If it was all working before and it doesn't now, you need to re-visit the work you have done first. I wouldn't mind betting the belt is one tooth out. I had this with that wretched Matiz that Julia drives. I think I had four or five goes with the new cam belt and was one tooth out every time I let the tensioner go on the belt.
Beyond that, I know nothing......
Chris.

I know nothing about diesels either but there are lots of posts with people experiencing the same problem, eg diesel timingAlmost certainly a timing issue. Just be very careful, easy to cause a lot of damage. Turn the engine by hand after any changes to make sure nothing is jamming before trying to start it. regards David Sorry Indy - no idea really. Cheers lads,
Yup, I've been careful so far with the work. Using lock pins in the fly wheel and checking the timing mark lines up on the cam sprocket.
Shouldn't be able to damage the valves by tweaking the pump timing (has 4 bolts for adjustment on the pump side of the cam sprocket).
