Looking good. What paint do you use? Tony S It's....... adequate. Everything is now the right shape and red. The finish is flattered by the camera. For this job I'm using some aerosol cellulose from Jawel paints. C.

Jawel aerosols use a rather nice nozzle giving a very good fan. BLVC RD05 for our cars, BTW.

Turned the car round and started on the other side. Couple of large scabs blowing through on the top of the wing. That'll be where I welded a replacement front end onto the wing then. Angle grinder and wire wheel deployed. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Yup. Presumably the inner wing coating has failed. Will deal with that after repairing this. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Rust treated, little patch welded home, several pin-holes shot in as well. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr On to the boring bit. Nearly there with it. Chris.

I have used Jawell paints for 15 years (no connection) and I think Chris first experienced their product when he worked on Mo I too have been working on a hole in the upper wing Chris 😏

Yes! Well remembered, Dave. Onwards and downwards this morning. Lots of scraping up the inside of the wing. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr What a mess. I'm filthy. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Front door off, rear edge of wing sprung. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr To deal with this. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr And revealing those. Auto focus, love it, eh? VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr After the attack of the wire brush. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Bottom of the inner wing. I think that might be a repair pre-dating my ownership. Got to go. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Front of wing blown over. Yet to be cut and polished. And apart from that, I took the morning off and did nowt. Chris.

Back to it after lunch. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Outer panel cut away, damaged flange cut away. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Rather larger outer panel welded home over new flange piece. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr And edge beaten home. So that bit went more or less to plan. Always worrying..... VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Buzzed the rot out of the sill end with the die grinder. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Quite a while later. That got complicated and several extra panels had to be added. Still, nice and solid now. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr And then it pointed its bosom skywards.... You can see that I've been cutting the repair panel off the front. Went to split the bottom edge off the gusset plate with a chisel and controlled violence and the gusset plate has given way. It's buckled off the inner sill as well. Now this is (I think) meant to be 3mm thick steel and it isn't; it's 1mm at most. I hope it's a localised repair panel, as I don't want to make another gusset plate. Damn near killed me last time. So anyway, I'll get underneath tomorrow and see what's going on properly. Mmmm - upside down welding. My favourite. Chris.

That went south pretty quickly. I had to do a bit of chopping. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Cleaned and tidied up the front and cut the remains of the gusset plate away. Which led to: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Large chunk of floor, inside sill and bottom edge of the bulkhead cut away. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr And a section of outer sill. Ho hum. I wasn't exactly delighted with this lot, but, hey, it's just metal. The root of all evils here is that hole in the gusset plate in the bottom right of the picture above. It's probably swaged in order to add strength rather than to be a large drain hole. I suspect that in reality it's a highly effective water scoop. It forms a triangular box section with the bulkhead and the floor all the way across the front of the car and round into the front of the sill. Drown everything in cavity wax when I've got this lot back together again, I suppose. Speaking of which: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Inside sill sction repaired and dropped down to meet the outer sill. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Like that. Outer panel butt welded and plugged home. Nice and solid again. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Starting on the floor repairs. More soon. C.

Finished off the front corner. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Now etch primed, seal sealered, primered, painted, stone chipped and the outside undersealed as well. Finished up giving it a stiff word about its future behaviour. C.

Brings back memories of the days the MOT testers used to prod with pointed screwdrivers, before they were issued with toffee Hammers. hopefully should last you a long time. could be worse, might be a Lancia!

Chisel. That's a proper rust finding tool. Once I've done the cavity wax thing into the box sections, I can get on with the doors on this side. Started, so might as well finish. C.

Just enough gas. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr That's come up nicely. Edges turned and beaten flat. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Ready for paint, which I can't do because: VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr The back half of this wing is being very awkward. Still struggling to get the lines right, so still kicking up some filler dust. Nail it tomorrow. Chris.

Progress again. Delayed by MrsP's "Operation Garden Gate". I had briefly thought I'd be parachuting into Arnhem, but fortunately not. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Door painted, flatted and polished. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Wing flatted back and polished. Might revisit that later and see if it can be improved. VOF707J by Penguin 45, on Flickr Finally got the back end of that wing sorted, so that's now been painted. This should work out as a "fade out", losing that top line as the paint gets flatted and polished back. If I keep this up, I'll have to get that Snoopy chap round to polish it. Did you know he likes polishing? Chris.
