Tony - I wish I had managed to make a new battery tray. Fortunately, I found the original and managed to clean it up and paint it. Andy, it's getting there. Gasket for the cable gear selector housing turned up yesterday, so that has gone back into place, allowing me to fill the engine with oil. Today saw the electrics being re-laid in the engine bay after some quite extensive repairs. Progress was slowed by having to move and disconnect various bits of pipe work to allow the loom to sit correctly. Presumably, it should have been fitted first. All sorts of other bits and pieces done around the engine bay, including fitting the speedo cable correctly. Funny how you step back at the end of the day and think "Not much to see"! I've been struggling to refit the "U" clamps on the drive shaft joints. The old ones have been proving very recalcitrant and seem to have distorted slightly, so that the legs don't want to run back through the casting. This converts the job to one of brute force, so epic fail there. I have robbed the clamps from a new joint in my spares stash and have now got the near-side sorted. I'll deal with the off-side tomorrow. Enough - nearly time for Match of the Day. Chris.

Excellent updates, Chris! Not long before she's running now!
Strange about the U- clamps. I've sometimes found them a bit difficult to get on, but not more than wiggling and hitting lightly with a hammer has solved it. They sometimes have obvious wear, deep marks possibly from slack/ being to loose, in which case I've always renewed them for good ones.
You remember not to tighten the couplings before the weight is on the wheels, or have a piece of wood between the upper arm and lower bump rubber, so the drive shaft is straight?
I'm doing the CV joints and front hub bearings on the white one today. The joints have made noise for 13 000 kms now, and possibly more before the PO laid it up, so time to look into them perhaps:-) Surely built to last the crab mechanics:-)

Pressure bottle and clamp band were painted yesterday, so they went back in. Got the other side of the drive shafts back together. 3' crowbar required to get the stabiliser bar to line up properly..... And: She's off the stands and back on her wheels. N/s suspension is about half way inflated. Started on the o/s and the pump gave up. Grrr. Getting there. Chris.

Brake servo back in, wiper motor back in, new heater hoses and clips fitted, rubber strip made and fitted around radiator shroud. Bay is coming together nicely. Acquired a selection of bits to sort out a new suspension pump, but lack sufficient strenth to assemble hose. Ady.........! Chris.

Fuel pipe work completed and pump mounted. Exhaust mounted. Lots of assembly paste used. Oil and water topped up, 2 gallons of fuel in and battery fitted. Fuel pump runs. Leak at carburettor sorted. Starter solenoid doesn't sol. Not only that, but it doesn't connect when operated manually. Boo....... Chris.

Bit low on energy today, so I did one of those little non-structural welding jobs. Remember this? O/S front wing bottom. Did that. Made that. And welded it in there. No doubt the ubiquitous skim of filler will be required just to finish the job off, but I was quite pleased with that. It looks like the replacement wing Mark had fitted was in fact a used one, looking at the bit of cruddy metal welded home inside the bit I removed - presumably a bit of the end of an old sill. Stripped and painted the airbox as well. Another little job done. Chris.

Best I could do, but the moment is captured for posterity.

Major milestone, and sounding good. View through the front screen reminds me of the Woody Allen film 'The Sleeper' when he finds a 200 year old Volkswagen.
