Now that the snows have cleared up here in the North, the builders have been cracking on apace with the new garage. Not much to look at right now, but it will finish up 6m x 5m inside, so room for work bench and some storage as well. Next week should see the centre part in-filled to a depth of about 4' to bring it up level with the road side. Getting excited! Chris.

6x5m should be a nice double! Enough room for Eugenie, and another classic? I hate having any of my cars sitting outside, luckily the Landcrab is under cover but the Maestro and Cambridge have to sit outside in all weathers I hate that.

I think I'm going to treat it as a garage and 3/4 - plenty of room for the car and the work benches and spares and stuff. For security reasons, we're sticking an 8' door on the front only. My mate Adi will be doing some clever electronic stuff on the security side. For those of you who have not followed the trials and tribulations of 2010 on other forums, we finished the year with no less than 9 crime numbers and that was just the ones we bothered to report. This New Year was more about getting rid of 2010, rather than seeing the new one in. Hey, it's a New Year, so fingers crossed. Richard, there are some excellent outdoor car covers available - as usual, they depend on budget. This chap - www.thoroughbred-covers.co.uk/ - is excellent and is local to me. Chris.

'Tis nearly done......... Walls up to height. The hole top left is the new garden shed - under the floor when finished, Roof going on. Hard core pouring into the middle of the garage. Stopped that Morrisons truck doing 40mph down Henshaw Lane, anyway. Filling up - only another two feet to go. Steps from the side door down into the garden. Roof all finished - guttering on. My mate Theo (Demon welder and painter of all things automotive) slumming it with a bucket of masonry paint. View across the space - car spares and tools now in big heap in the middle. High speed shot of me and Theo slapping on the masonry paint. Nice shot of the space. We've used about 30l of masonry paint so far and I'm not quite finished yet. I gave up counting the individual breezeblocks at about 300...... Mick and Saun (the builders) weren't exactly happy with me this morning as the paint isn't showing the slightest interest in drying. It hasn't even skinned over yet. I have set off a space heater overnight tonight to see if that helps. Nearly there - side door went on today and the builders are in the process of dropping the kerb. Water and 'leccy by the end of the week and the jobs done. The outside will be rendered in the spring. Having cleared the storage garage behind the pub, MrsP's bus is stuffed to the gunwales with stuff to go to the tip. The scrap metal pile entertained Joe (Our local scrap chap) for at least 20 minutes loading up. You really just don't realise just how much cr*p you accumulate. Anyway, Theo's SAAB 99 is now tucked away in there with his stash of parts and the new pub landlord can have the other garage back by the end of the week. The new landlord is Adam, who is a petrol head with a souped-up MR2. I think things are going to be all right.......... Chris.

Steps from the side door down into the garden. Don't they just lead into "new garden shed"?

No, no. The up-and-over door will be subject to a number of internal security devices, so the side door will really be the main access. The "garden shed" will have it's own little door round the back of the garage. My mate Adrian will installing some electronic security devices in the near future as well. Should be quite fun as we both have a slightly warped sense of humour..... Chris.

The masonry paint dried by Friday, so MrsP decided to finish it off with some silk emulsion.
"At least that'll dry quickly," she said.
Oh no it doesn't....... Which was a shame, as I had hoped to get the shelving in position and my workbench set up. Tomorrow, hopefully.
Chris.

Well, it's kind of done. She's in the garage. Shelving screwed to the wall, large bench fabricated and battened to the side wall with a shelf underneath has allowed the massive pile of stuff dragged over from the garages behind the pub to be at least distributed about the garage, if not actually sorted and stored properly. View down the garage. New bench. Storage area. Hopefully, I'll finish up with the bulk of the car parts over on the racks. Unfortunately, the builders still have a pile of their gear in the garage, so the proper sort out and organisation will have to hang fire for for the moment. The "heavy duty" workbench still has to go back in on the far wall and I intend to run shelves up behind the car. Still, a good days work and rather pleased with things. Even if I did get covered with (still) un-dried paint..... Chris.

Oh yes - the string of lights from the canvas garage where we re-built Eugenie has been strung from the garage roof as the the sparkie still hasn't shown up (Tuesday now, apparently.), nor yet the plumber (God only knows when he'll appear).
'Tis as well that I have the patience of a saint.
Chris.

The steps go out of the side of the garage and down into the garden. I thought they went out the back, but the "hole" for them shown in the early pics is no longer there. The "hole" was what I thought was your shed in an earlier post, but I'm obviously *very* confused!
