I believe I have read there are some differences between the Maxi and MK11 1800 doors. Does anyone know off hand what they are please?
Thanks
David

I believe I have read there are some differences between the Maxi and MK11 1800 doors. Does anyone know off hand what they are please? Thanks David Differences are marginal at best... The biggest difference I am aware of is the use of rivets to hold the trim on the Maxi doors where the 1800 only had a painted line or the much wider 1800 S trim. Most Maxi doors have small latches in the inside of the window sill to hold the top of the door cards. The same was used on all Mk3 landcrabs. Cable change Maxi doors should have been the same as 1800 Mk2 doors. On rear doors the door pockets are not fitted to the Maxi, so the small holes drilled to keep the small screws that hold the bottom of the pockets on the 1800 are not present, same goes for the front on rod-change Maxis - but I think this is the same as with the Mk3. Regards, Alexander

Thanks Alexander. I'm looking at all the options at the moment and I've seen a couple of Maxis here. I know Chris has had fun in the past modifying Maxi doors to fit on Mk1 Wolseley and it was quite a big job. Things are so rare here it's a case of just buying them if I spot them. I confess that Adrian did the modifying....... Latch area cut out on two Maxi doors and replaced with a section from old doors to be discarded. He's a very clever lad - you absolutely cannot see the join after they were painted. Chris.

Where does Adrian live? Is he planning a trip to the Far East soon . Very impressive. David I confess that Adrian did the modifying....... Exactly, Alexander.
I've got Maxi doors on the lh side of my blue mk 2. There were no issues with this swap. Exactly the same, except one tiny detail.
The mk 2 front door has a metal piece, around 15x4 cm, welded vertically in front of the hole where the doorpocket goes. This is where the 2 screws are fixed, which hold the front of the pocket. Easy fix if missing.
Regards, Tommy.

Not quite what I meant, chaps. 1800 door lock position. Maxi door lock position. 1800 rear door top corner. Maxi door top corner. Chris.

Chris and Alexander Many thanks for the photos and information. I guess when I owned a Mk1 Austin and a Mk11 Wolseley at the same time I should have been more observant but there were plenty of doors and skins around at that time if I should ever have needed one. Just one last question, did the Maxi have the door pockets like the 1800? the only photo of a Maxi interior I can find isn't clear but it looks as though it may have a narrower pocket maybe? regards David Yup, but that's all Mk1/Mk2 differences too... Incredible! While we were stripping the paint to bare metal I noticed the difference on my 69 Landcrab rear doors. At the top rearward corner one was rounded and one was squared. I have assumed these were the original doors, but I now believe one may have been changed, unless Austin was using some older stock of doors when they built.

David, at least Maxis with rod change (71-on) used narrower pockets at the front, just like using the outer 1/2 of a Mk2 Landcrab one... On the rear the Maxi never had pockets, as these would have interfered with the folding rear seat. Regards, Alexander

Alexander, many thanks that is helpful. The car I was looking at may have had doors which were a 1800/Maxi mix an match regards David Just one last question, did the Maxi have the door pockets like the 1800? the only photo of a Maxi interior I can find isn't clear but it looks as though it may have a narrower pocket maybe?
