Seeing as we're being somewhat safety conscious at the moment, here's a little cautionary story.
I have mentioned the Fiat Scudo workvan elsewhere on the forum. The front nearside tyre has had a very slow leak for months. I blew it up twice a week and just kept an eye on it. Over time, the (power) steering became occasionally very heavy, especially when trying to park or other low speed maneuvers. This morning, it was flat as a pancake. So, over the road to see Mark and Tracy at Yeadon Tyres. Removing the tyre from the rim to replace it revealed that the sidewalls on the inside of the carcass were quite literally falling apart. This explained the heavy steering - turning the steering wheel was turning the wheel, but the tyre was just twisting. As I was in a rush, we pulled out the spare to slap that on and get me off to work. It was bald......
So, I've now got two lovely new tyres on the front and nice light steering again (and a bill!). The tyre on the van was three years old, the tread was down but usable and from the outside looked absolutely fine. You really just can't tell.
Be warned.
Chris.

A note from my recent experience, consider the age of your tyres to. Other than finding a crack in one of my tyres they looked absolutely fine and had passed an mot. When I found the crack I realised that the tyres had probably been on the car since 1990 and maybe even much before that as the car is very low mileage. Rubber will degrade over time and it would be horrible for someone to have an accident because of an old set of rubber.
