We have a new banner at the top, as no doubt everyone can see. My good friend Theo is down for the weekend to play cars and rattled this up in pretty short order. Not only is he a demon welder of SAABs and 'Crabs, but he's a graphic design artist as well! My thanks to him for this. Chris. Attachments:wolseley.pdn (344.56 KB)

I didn't think Saabs needed welding . Mine didn't! David Oh yes - my 99 was a real rotter. It was the first car I got to grips with on the welding front and I couldn't keep up! It went up north in the end to a true SAAB aficionado, who has apparently sorted it out as a proper restoration. Wouldn't mind seeing how it turned out, actually. Theo is down in a 900 Vert, and has just rubbed clean through the lip of the front wheel arch...... Chris.

Banner top looks really good, on iPAD it shows a bit less of your car but the whole effect is very professional. After a couple of weeks of using this revised forum package I think it is a definite step forward. Nice work Chris

Yes it does look good but maybe a bit biased towards the Wolseley for reasons I cannot fathom Any chance of replacing the Wolseley with an animated gif (or equivalent) that would scroll though the models? regards David Banner top looks really good, on iPAD it shows a bit less of your car but the whole effect is very professional. Fair point - I know which programme Theo used, so I will have a play with it at some point in the future. It's not my normal sort of thing, so stand by.

OK - further to my comments above, I have managed to prove to myself that the technology is way beyond my skills. But - not beyond our Alex's.
So, to make a slide show for the banner, I need high quality images of the rest of the ADO17 range. Surprisingly enough to relate, I have an extensive collection of pictures of 'Crabs which can best be called "happy snaps". To make this work properly, we need 3/4 shots of the Austin and Morris versions and maybe the Ute for completeness. Pic should be a decent front/side view, not copyright and a good high resolution.
Candidates can be posted here - if we get some we like, I'll get in touch and see about getting the originals mailed over.

A few weeks ago I gave a presentation on Landcrabs to the local car club here in Thailand. Most of the owners run classic Jaguars, Alfas, Mercs etc and look down on what they perceive to be boring slow cars and cannot or don't want to differentiate between a Landcrab, maxi or 1100/1300. I showed two videos, one the 1968 London Sydney Marathon, the second Gelignite Jack covering 12,000 miles across the Oz deserts in a Mini and 1800 back in 1965. In between I showed them what they had been missing with details of the suspension, ride handling etc. I incorporated photos of the whole range, Austin / Morris Wolseley 1800 2200 (Six) and Utes.
Chris if you still have the email I sent with the attachments they may be of some use. Most were sourced from photo-sharing sites.
David

I guess you didn't win them over? hah
I know what you're on about aye, get plenty of that here too, mainly younger chaps in their early 80s RWD cars. Their loss, more 'crabs for us (that sounds wrong lol).
It's funny how the mini is cool etc and they command $$, but as soon as you get to ADO16 and bigger they don't have the same interest. I'd have an ADO16 over a mini anyday.

Yes - how did the presentation go? Never did ask.
Fair point about your pictures - I will check back through them and see what we've got. Otherwise, some of the Hutton pictures should be usable as I did apply a bit of thought about angles and light and stuff. All others welcome.......

A mixed reaction really. The meeting attracted the largest number of members for several years. Not sure if that says anything or not. I had a few gentle digs at members. The guy with the Lotus was a bit miffed to see that the 1800 rolls less than his car. (Actually I only had figures for the 1100 but used a bit of unsubstantiated extrapolation to make the point). They were also astounded at the body strength being ahead of even the classic Mercs and the Volvos and the cross country ability on mixed surfaces. Only one of the Americans knew of the car but he is a rally driver. After the event a number of members came and told me of their good experiences with the Landcrabs, but I feel didn't want to speak up in public. Only one member made the quip that his father owned one and couldn't wait to get rid of it! Actually I don't really care what they think but it was fun to let them know what they have missed! David I guess you didn't win them over? hah I know what you're on about aye, get plenty of that here too, mainly younger chaps in their early 80s RWD cars.
