I'm following up the issue of fitting an aircon to an 1800 both here and on the Oz forum. I guess I should know the answer to this but I don't and Googling hasn't helped. If you look at the specs for say the UK Mk11 1800 you will see 3 different needles specified, ZH (std) C1W (weak) SA (rich). Looking at the Australian Mk11 cars they appear to use SL as the standard needle which has a very similar profile to the UK rich SW needle. The differences between the std and rich needles is quite profound. At low load/ rpm very similar but at higher load/ RPM the rich needle gives up to 15% greater fuel to air ratio. The difference reduces at wide open throttle but is still significant at 6-8%. Simple question: why were these 3 options listed and when would you choose them? One for Alexander maybe . Tommy which needle do you use in the very cold climate? I suspect that the rich needle is used in Australia to aid cooling of the engine through excess fuel, but that's just speculation on my part, maybe they just prefer better performance and fuel is cheaper Regards David
