These wheels and tyres are currently on EBay. I don't want them myself but what has arisen my interest is the list of suitable vehicles for these wheels. Austin 1800, Vauxhall Cresta & Viscount, Humber Super Snipe, Imperial and Hawk, Rover P5 and P6 and oddly the Ford P100 (Cortina V pick-up) Do all of these have mutually compatible wheels? On a different but related matter I notice that the choice of available tyres for 14" wheels is much wider if you go for 175/80 rather than 165/80. Has anyone changed their rubber recently and what did you go for? Nick

I saw them. The known swap was SD1 wheels - there is a LOCI car on pepperpots - not really sure about that............
The problem is the weight of the steering, I suspect. It's a heavy beast at low speed without P/A steering on 165s - wider sections aren't going help.
I've got Uniroyal 165s on mine. I've got a couple of spares tucked away, as they are becoming more difficult to find. Last ones came from Black Circles, IIRC.

Nick / Chris As you know the Mk1 cars ran 175 x 13 and the Mk11/111 ran on 165/14. As I used to do a lot of motorway driving to work often 150 miles a day or more, I tried 175/14s to raise the gearing a little. As a result I found the tyres lasted appreciably longer and surprisingly the steering was no heavier. I think the greater resilience was also kinder on the suspension and handling was actually improved. I never went back to 165 x 14s. Regards David I saw them. Hi all!
I've got a set of 175/ 70-14 and prefer them to the 165/80-14. No difference to the steering in my opinion. It seems to me they last longer too.
I've got some of the original size, but they are very difficult to find here. Unfortunately the white one seems to have a habit of eating the front tyres, on the outer edges, so 2 new ones are almost scrap already.. I've adjusted the upper balljoints and changed the track rod ends, which were loose , but guess I'll have to take it to a garage to check/ adjust the toe in correctly.
I like Rostyle wheels and would like a set of those for a change. Not at all very common up here though:-)
Regards, Tommy

Hi Tommy Welcome back!!! The 175/70 14 tyres actually reduce the gear ratio by around 3% so better for climbing your mountains. You would need to go to 185/70 14 tyres to bring it back within 1% of the original 165/80 x 14 tyres but not sure if these would foul brake hoses etc? Hi all! Thanks Dave!
I once tried some 185 tyres on a mk1, and they rubbed against the tie bar on full lock.
