Hi, Not my week. First of all my Son asked if he could borrow the Rover 25 to go off for the weekend.
The idea being to travel to Craven Arms Railway Station and leave the car there over the weekend while he and his wife took a train to Scotland. His car is being repaired.
I agreed and off they went. This meant I was thrown back on the Morris, I went into the garage and tried to start the Morris, in spite of standing for a few weeks it started readily.
I didn't need it so it stayed there over Sat, Sun. Got a call this morning, there was trouble with the Rover. It has run out of water, and when refilled emptied itself rapidly, could I collect it from Llandrindod?
Went out to the Morris, the tyres looked a bit low so I got a tyre gauge and went round testing the pressure.
It is a bit crowded in the garage and whilst making my way between my XJ-S and the Morris I lost my balance and demolished the radio aerial.
When I finally started the engine it fired up readily. Went to engage reverse, crunching sound, pumped the pedal, no joy.
Stuck clutch plate, I engaged reverse, turned the engine over and it jumped back, the clutch freed off.
I blame the modern material clutches are lined with.
Drove to Llandrindod and collected the Rover, got it home OK, except wife decided to take it easy, she drove it and we went home at 35 M.P.h.
A look at the dipstick confirmed the headgasket diagnosis, it is covered in creamy emulsion.
It takes it's last journey tomorrow to the scrap yard.
153,000 on the clock and rust on the body condemn it.
It is a shame the K series is prone to headgasket failure otherwise it is a good car.
Regards Kels.
