First of all, I'm very very sceptic to miracle stuff on tins... So called "snake oil" products if my language memory is correct:-)
However, I just had what seems like a very positive result with the mentioned Bar's leak coolant product. Touch wood, hopefully it continues:-)
I've been troubled by very misty/ damp windows in my Rover 600. Not caused by activities related to this phenomen. It's too cold up here
Some days ago I noticed drops of coolant under the heater So a slight weep from the matrix, obviously.. Needless to say, I almost had a nervous breakdown, as this involves a dashboard out job.. I was sure it wasn't a bad leak, so decided to try the mentioned product after some research.
The chemistry of this is well above my head, but it's a mix of liquid and pellets. You put it on the radiator, or top hose (NOT expansion tank) and run the car for 20 minutes. A good flush prior to this is recommended. The pellets react with heat and pressure drop, expand and are said to block cracks up to 0.9 cm. It does not block coolant passages etc, according to the manufacturer.
Desperate as I was, I gave it a go and would you believe it, the dripping stopped and the windows and interior are now totally dry! The difference is very obvious.
It must be said, that I most likely had a very small leak as I've never noticed much coolant loss.
Anyway, it seems this product is worth a try if you have similiar issues involving much work to change components! The stuff can also be used preventive.
Regards, Tommy
