Hey, I found this forum while looking for info on my Landcrab, I'm from the USA and there aren't many here. Mine is a '69 Austin Mk II. In the past it was seriously damaged in the front end, it looks like it was run head on dead center into a tree or something solid. We've gotten through the sheet metal and are now down to the crossmember. It's seriously damaged and I think it has spread the frame rails apart a little. I'm looking for dimensions of the crossmember with center to center measurements for the suspension mounting. Can anyone help or direct me to a source of the information? Thanks Charly

I have several manuals and non except the Haynes have any body measurements. I believe the Haynes to be incorrect or my car is tweaked quite a bit. The Haynes manual states 27 9/32nds inches center to center on outer bolt holes for the front suspension rods attach. I am hoping someone has these specs or page they could post. Charly

I've got that page and when I measure from hole to hole, A-A as described, I come up with 29 7/16 inches. In my other car manuals, the measurements are much more explicit. [/img] It is hard for me to believe the car was spread apart 2 inches. I guess it is possible, just hard to believe. I'm hoping someone could verify these measurements for me. Charly

Right - let's try this a slightly different way. In the picture, you can see the three bolt heads coming through the corner reinforcing plate. The two to the right go through the tie-bar housing. Measuring across the outboard bolts (centre to centre), I get 750mm (A smidge over 29.5"). Measuring across the inboard bolts (centre to centre), I get 647mm (A smidge under 25.5"). I don't think the car haas been bumped, so that should be reasonably accurate. Cheers, Chris.

Got to say Charly, it looks more like it's ridden over something rather than being smashed in from the front. Shame that the front part has rotted out. A way ahead might be to knock the inner part straight and box it in before putting the valance back on. Even if Tommy still has the front box section, it would be an appalling shipping cost to get it to the US.

Actually the front section isn't rotted out, its bent like you wouldn't believe. We drilled out the spot welds to remove it and actually the parts aren't rotted as much as they're bent. The large hole on top of the crossmember was made by someone in an attempt to pull out the bend. The plan is to remanufacture the bent pieces and that is why we're looking for as many dimensions as possible. The hardest part will be trying to determine the arc of the crossmember. I think we're going to try to duplicate the arc of the 'shelf' behind the bumper. This was a piece that was laid over the damage and welded on.
