I heard that the arch from a scrap front wing can be used as a repair panel for a rotten arch on a rear wing. The radius of the curve doesn't seem to match though. The rear arch has a slightly straighter top part. Anyone had a go with this or heard of any repair panels available? Or any from other cars that are a close fit?

You can "manipulate" it to fit......
When we did mine, I used Maxi rear arch sections, cut them in half at 12 o'clock and inserted a short handmade section to make up the length. I did have to use a smear of filler to tidy it up properly.

I see that Maxi repair panels are still sort of available. They look to be a quite a good match. Possible even better than a front arch from an 1800? Thanks for your advice.

I got them from Hadrian Panels, who appear to have ceased maufacture. There may well be some residual stock around. That's how we did it. Chris.

But Maxi arch panels are not rounded as on the 1800, but have flat face that would need more filling than I'd like. On my father's 1800 we replaced only the bad bits of the rear arches with pieces made up by ourselves...

The front wing arch is a full semi-circle when viewed side on. The rear arch is definitely flattened and elongated along the top section by comparison.

That looks like the foundation for a great job on your wing Chris, thanks for the photo. The bad bits of my rear wheel arch are nearly all of it so I will see what I can find. I see Earlpart still have Maxi rear arch panels listed for £50 but I will also have a scrap front wing off my car with good arch when I replace it with a new wing. I am waiting to start work in earnest until I move house in a few weeks time. Richard

That pic shows the complete rear arch being replaced. The front section was a straight "like for like" fit into the existing bodywork. The rear half had to be adjusted at the bottom to conform - bit of work with a hammer and dolly soon sorted it. I think we need to see some pics of the car, Richard. Chris.

I have just re-read Alexanders post and realise that he means that the actual edge of the arch is flattened, not the curvature. I seem to recall spending a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon working a section of round bar around the inside of the lip to create the rounded edge. All except the very front section - the shape started to distort where we were going to weld to the body, so that last 2" did get built up with some metallised filler.
Always read the post properly..........
Chris.
