To make a long story short, I love the Rover 620 TI. I had one some years ago, and it's the best car I've ever had. Besides the crabs og course:-)
Yesterday one came up for sale locally. A 1999, Ridiculously cheap, with current Norwegian form for MOT and tax. It had been a daily driver until recently, when it suffered charging issues. Went to have a look today, and I just had to buy it! It is rust free, even the rear wheel arces are spotless. There are no dents and the interior is close to immaculate. Everything works, even all the electrics! The engine was sweet, apart from a blow from the rear exhaust section, and quick and responsive and the gearbox was fine too!
So, all I have to do is fix the charging issue. I suspect the alternator. Funny thing is the charging light does not come on, not when switching the ignition on and not when driving. The battery is then drained rapidly while driving. After taking it for a test drive, the battery showed 10 Volts at idle, and it does not change when revving. So i't not charging at all.Any ideas?
Looking forward to fix it and use it as a daily driver as I'm fed up with the Peugeot:-)

If the light does not even come on when ign. is switched on before starting the engine, it is 90% that the regulator is broken. Should be straight forward to change and cost about 20 pounds...
Just been through that on my Maestro for the 2nd time...

Thanks! I believe that's likely. I had an alternator failure on my previous ti, too, but at least the ignition light worked and glowed dimly then brighter when applying load like headlights, blower etc on.
I'll remove the alternator and have it tested. I recall these cars have a habit of wearing alternators, due to the heat around where they are mounted.
Anyway, not concerned about this. Once fixed it will be brilliant, and it was so cheap it's a bargain no matter what. I believe this is a future classic, too! It's black btw, not that common I think.

I'm more and more happy with the Rover! It must have been a bargain, in fact it cost less than the Peugeot's latest garage bill. 3, yes Three hub bearings gave up at the same time... The weather we've had made me send it to a garage, rather than doing it myself.. I removed the Rover's alternator today, and ordered a new regulator. The ignition light worked when i earthed the light's wire at the alternator, so pretty sure it's down to the regulator. Other than a hole in the rear exhaust, it's in good order as far as I can see. It's totally rust free, been "Dinitroled" since new, and there are no dents. Some scratches here and there, but hey it's 13 yrs old.. Here are some pics, not very bright but.. The original alloys are included, with summer tyres on them. I suppose I'll have to find some original hub caps for the winter wheels.. Regards, Tommy:-)

Looks pretty good! And it does not have that dreadful black interior the ti's had in the UK...

Charging fixed:-) Fitted a new regulator today, and the ignition lamp worked:-) It went out as soon as the engine started and it charges as it's supposed to again.
Also got the exhaust rear box today, so that's the next job. Finally I need a new set of winter tyres. Then it will be ready for the road.
Regards, Tommy.
