Hi all! I went to the chap with the 2200 Princess yesterday, to help him with those carbs. Refer to earlier posts on fuel starvation, leaky hif carbs.
I filed down the corners of the bottom covers with a fine file. They were quite warped. Checked with a steel ruler and they became reasonably straight. Fitted new seals and applied some sealer too, and yes, no more leaks and it ran beautifully:-) No more stalling and misfiring. I have cleaned the carbs, which internals were horrible from lots of rust and dirt. It then occured to me, he has mixed up something, God knows for how long, and this is were I need some help. I've never worked on HIFs before.
The distributor vacuum line is supposed to be attached to the pipe on the underside of the first carb right? This pipe is similiar to the ones on top of the HS carb, where the vacuum advance line is mounted. Well, this pipe only had the remains of the rubber hose, which I suppose has been the angled type, where the plastic line from the distributor comes. He had mounted the advance pipe from the distributor on what I believe is this carb's overflow/ went outlet.. No surprice the vacuum unit was broken and there was a smell of petrol inside the distributor.
Each carb is supposed to have a clear overflow plastic hose routed away from the engine, right? The other carb has the correct arrangement.
Regards, Tommy:-)

Hi Tommy,
I've been having a look through the 2200 manual and can make the following obseravtions.
1/ The advance does indeed come off the bottom of the 1st ("front") carburettor. 2/ The two tubes angled upwards are for the engine recirculating gases. 3/ There is no mention of overflow tubes.
Hope that's some use,
Chris.
