Not much to report on this week. has been a week since my parts left the UK, so I can expect them in the middle or the end of next week. Won't be doing too much this weekend coming as I have a work BBQ to go to.
Today I got around to mock fitting the K&N filter onto the carb. Had purchased some nuts and a length of threaded bar for the job, cut two lengths from the bar to suit and slapped it on.
Looking pretty good, haven't bothered with a photo at the moment, will get one done once she's all back in place.
Cheers,
Andrew

She lives! Though still getting the slight niggly issue where the throttle doesn't seem to go all the way back, bit at a loss on that. Before: After: -Andrew

Andrew
Your youtube url has been corrupted; I don't like the look of the end of your throttle cable. Is it the cable that is stopping the throttle from fully closing?

Link should work now, have updated it.
Yeah I think it is the cable, what do you think is wrong with it? kinda has a little bend at the end of it from what I can tell/see.

Disconect the cable from the carb. Check the butterfly fully closes - if it does then it must be the cable. Check the inner cable runs smoothly over the full range. There shouldn't be a kink in the end; I would get a new cable, you don't want that sticking or breaking when you are driving. regards David Link should work now, have updated it. The throttle closed fine when I was putting it back togther so must be the cable.
I'll get in touch with Tony Wood soon and get a replacement.

E-mail sent to Mr. Wood......also might get a new petrol flap and some new hubcaps.....I mean I might aswell make the most of the postage aye? Bog at the back is starting to get worse. Will have to get this sorted this year, but ideally wish to do it all in one hit with some other bits of rust. Would like to try and do it myself, but fear I'll make a mess of it and also I need a welder (which is decent cash, but then again so if getting it done by a pro). We'll cross that bridge in a few months. Might just suck it up and get a pro to do it. Will be getting the paint done by a pro regardless. Of course I know Chris would rather I got the welder lol You need to move out here so you can do it for me, in return I shall provide beer and my lovely company. -Andrew

Where is the choke placed on a Stock 18/85? I think mine might of been moved to make space for the tacho, like the ignition was?
Also when I tried to start the car with a fair ammount of choke on, it wasn't happy and spluttered as if it were too rich, which of course it is with the choke on. The fast idle screw is set up correctly I reckon.
Cheers,
Andrew

Where is the choke placed on a Stock 18/85? Should be the same place as the Six I think. Just to the left of steering wheel to the right of radio in centre section. Just under crash pad. There's a picture here :- www.wolseley.asn.au/flyingw/fw4/index.html

What temperature was it when you used the choke? Not sure where you are but Auckland seems to be around 20C-23C so you would only need full choke from a cold start and then push it in most of the way within a few seconds if everything is set up right - just to keep the fast idle actuated. Is it running OK when it is warmed up? Regards David Sweet as, that answers that queston. Not onto the mystry of the flooding choke -Andrew

She seems fine when she's warm, save the little bit of throttle cable error (which I'm talking to Tony about a new one)

Your non standard air-filter maybe? She seems fine when she's warm, save the little bit of throttle cable error (which I'm talking to Tony about a new one) -Andrew

Perhaps, but if anything that'd lean off the mixture?

Yes, but at idle you may have richened the mixture to compensate for the better air flow. Engines do strange things. Just a thought have you checked the ignition timing, sometimes a retarded ignition can give symptoms like this. Perhaps, but if anything that'd lean off the mixture? -Andrew
