Having finally got the landcrab to run without polite coughs and less polite spluttering noises, traced to a faulty thermostat. I had a week or two of care free motoring.
It couldnt last, My eldest Son needed help replacing the roof of his garage with a rubber membrane. You prepare the flat roof and paint glue on the boards roll out the membrane and thats more or less it according to the video. Real life is slightly harder.
Of course you need to strip the old roof off first, entrance the crab.
As the only car with a towbar available she was hitched to an old trailer, already full of junk, the wife fills it with any thing she wishes to dispose of we generate a steady supply.
Off to the tip to empty it, trailer empty, try to start the engine, she gave a click from the starter, then nothing. A second turn spun the starter but she did not fire, frantic churning over she finally coughed into life.
On the way to my Sons house we passed a Garage, I was told to stop so we could buy milk. Without thinking I switched off the engine.
When I tried to restart the car just kept churning over, as I had parked badly, too near the car wash, it was a double embarrasment.
I got out and played with the carb piston, pulled and replaced the plug leads, checked wires to the coil and distributor. Tried the starter again, more churning over. Finally just as I was about to start serious investigation she coughed as I let the starter key go. I tried again and we were off.
I was wet from spray from the car wash, a local farmer had doggedly continued to use the spray wand on an old Landrover, squeezing alongside to reach the side closest to me. He had put his money in the machine and refused to lose it.
When we left my Sons later to revisit the tip with the old roofing felt she started immediately from cold, I left the engine running at the tip, she ran home faultlessly, seems I have a hot start problem. I some times get an initial click from the starter. suppose I will start checking earths and wiring.
Regards Kels.
