Tired of my engine trouble, here's another subject:-) No doubt this must be of interest to others too:-)
Has anyone a solution to overcome the massive free play that may occur in the wiper mechanism of these cars? I fitted NOS wheelboxes and tried different wires, but there's still lots of free movement making the wipers hit and rub the screen seal and make a lot of noise. I seem to remember the gear inside the wiper motor said 110 degrees. I have got a 90 degrees gear from another Leyland car. Perhaps using that and adjusting the wipers will improve things?
Regards, Tommy:-)

You replaced the wheelboxes but did you replace the rack, if that is worn it will create slop at the end of the travel. No harm in trying a different gear to see if that provides a solution. I actually sort of like the noise, it grows on you after the first 50 miles on a wet stormy night! Be careful changing wires around, the internet is full of people who can't get their Lucas wipers to self park or run properly after changing switches and wires. Could be another big thread! On the Mini I seem to recall that it was possible to turn the gear in the wheel box to an unworn part by turning the spindle with the wheel box removed from the car. Might be worth a try.
