There are no 1800 brake pads in Leeds. A sad reflection of the times. However...... B&C Car Parts did allow me to rummage through their 1995 Observers Book of Brake Parts, which soon revealed that the 1970 onwards Ford Capri uses a pad with an identically sized back plate and pin spacing I went mad to the tune of £10.95 and bought a set. Opened the pin holes out to 6.5mm and they went straight in. They have a larger friction surface, so they may stop better or last longer, perhaps even both. Chris.

It will be interesting to see whether the greater contact area results in better braking or make the pedal pressure higher for the same stopping power. I recall that my colleague's Escort (Mk1) Twin Cam had the same brake caliper as the 1800 but never compared the pads, could be another souce as there is still a good following for the MK1 Twin Cam Escorts. Aren't the Capri pads the same as Austin Maxi? I know that some Capri uses them. For the non-S Landcrab the brake pads from the late Austin Healey 3000 can be used and are surely easy to order through many specialists.

Alexander

True, Alex. It was just that I needed a set of pads now, rather than waiting for a set to come through in the post.

Good point... Something that mostly did not work for me here in Germany since the late 80s. Luck for me, is that I have a shop from one of Europe's major sellers of MG, Austin Healey and Mini stuff in my town Regards, Alexander

The 1800 I just bought has been fitted with pads intended for SAAB 99 (to 1988) and 900. Mintex box is still in car, part number MGB 595 AF. The previous owner claimed they fitted without modifications and worked well.
Regards, Tommy.

How about this for a little list? See attachment. NOT "S" models. Current pad numbers which may help: EBC - DP169 Black Diamond - PP034 Ferodo - FDB9 Brakeworld - BW027 Brakeparts - BPS1541 Halfords - no idea - useless. Chris. Attachments:

Did about 30 miles today, pottering around Bradford. No real difference to the brakes. They've bedded in a bit and the pedal and effort is just the same.
