The funniest thing happened yesterday.
I've been looking for a proper hydrolastic pump. I got in touch with a bloke on a Norwegian Mini forum, who had one for sale. But sadly, he sold it to someone else before I managed to contact him. A bit annoyed, I started thinking of an 1800 advertised last year. It came with loads of spares and a hydrolastic pump. Was this still around? I didn't save the ad back then, and of course didn't remember the name of the seller.
Well, sometimes the strangest things happen. Yesterday evening, this very crab came up for sale. Including loads of spares, the pump and even five litres of hydrolastic fluid! At a reasonable price, too. About 500 GBP for the lot.
Well, I just bought it all! Collecting next weekend. The car isn't bad either. Solid body and complete, though it hasn't run for some years. It's got a Princess engine, gearbox and driveshafts. Looking forward to see how that's been arranged.
The owner sounded like he really knew what he was and had been doing when it came to these cars. He had also made a better engine mount, that's why the battery has been moved to the boot. Sadly, lower part of it has been painted. The two- tone paint looks horrible in my opinion.. Spares include almost everything from two broken cars:-) The only known fault to the car is that one front displacer has burst. Easy fix, and now I'll get a proper pump too, other than my leaky grease gun type. I do think it's essential to use vacuum to remove air from the system, which I haven't been able to on my present 1800. It does feel a bit stiff as well as a bit saggy at the rear end. Perhaps the new pump will improve things?
Well, needless to say I'm very happy about this:-) Now, this must be one of the happiest stories ever in my life with Crabs:-)
