Im in need of a new muffler for my 1800.
Long story short, the vehicle used to have a nice stainless exhaust with stainless muffler all slip jointed together and clamped, was super silent and engine performance was great, but needed replacing after 30 years or so, the last owners who had it done, must have spent a good amount of money on it.
The issue is nowdays the exhaust shops are completley useless and not helpful, didnt want to offer stainless options and use rubbish pipe that rusts out fast.
I sourced some stainless tube and gave it to them to install, so that part of it is OK, but the options of mufflers seem limited nowdays and not as quiet as my last muffler.
The exhaust shop says thats all they can get, and im not keen on adding extra mufflers either, whats more is that the muffler appears much larger than the last one so would have thought it was decent enough.
Now unfortunately last week my ignition failed on me and was cutting in and out while going at full speed, flooded the exhaust with fuel and blew the muffler up, its split right down the side where the crimped fold was, doubt it can be welded back.
Might be a good opportunity to get a decent muffler.
There was a fella in Australia building exhausts for these and made the mufflers to the right spec, but he since wound down his business and no longer does them.
Im sure there are ample mufflers in the UK I could source, but shipping them to New Zealand will be expensive.
Do mufflers follow a common naming designation to specify them? Perhaps there is a part number i can shop around?
Shouldnt be too difficult to do such a simple task, but has been a problem for years now, we only have one or two exhaust shops remaining in my city.
Im hoping the Australian members might be able to help.
I also was wanting to get a set of "S" extractors built for my manual which I want to convert to S spec at some point.
Maniflow have all the parts in the UK, but will be costly to get out here when it should be easy enough to build by anyone who has the experience.
